Tire pressure?

Good Morning all,
I pulled my Popup out of storage Sunday and discovered that it had a flat, turned out to be a faulty valve stem. In the process of getting this fixed I discovered that all the valve stems I could find were rated for 60 PSI max, and yet the tire says it should be inflated to 90PSI, so how does that work? In doing some reading, it seems that inflating to 90PSI is recommended, so that makes me wonder are there special valves for trailer tires? If so how come I cant seem to find any anywhere?

Any opinions are welcome as I need to get the tire fixed.

Cheers
John

Metal valves... they do not have a rubber coating on the shaft... a good tire store will have them..

Thanks for the responses.

I called 4 different places today looking for a valve replacement, all said they'd be happy to do it (with prices ranging from $10 cash to $50!!) but only one of the 4 had any idea what I was talking about when I said I'd need high pressure valves. This means 3 out of 4 would have put a 65PSI valve in a 90PSI tire and sent me on my way. 2 of these places were RV dealers! I have to say I'm stunned by this. This is a basic safety issue and yet almost no one knew what I was talking about.

That's why the consumer has to inform itself. Go to any auto store, Advance, O'reillys, etc, and get some metal valve stems. You don't have to replace them but once.

Lightbulb

And whatever you do don't pay someone to replace them. All you need is $2.99 valvestem tool available at any autoparts store, and of course an air compressor to fill'm back up. Always keep a valvestem tool in the glove box.

I think I made a mistake in terminology here, it's the whole valve that needs to be replaced, not just the stem.

I replaced my valve stems myself once. It was a lot of work breaking them down manually. Next time, I took 2 at a time to a local tire shop, had them do it and balanced them in the process. Cost about 10 bucks per tire then.

It does pay to carry the tool mentioned and a few spare schrader valve stems. I have had them start leaking on the road when checking tire pressure.

Go to a tire dealer - They stock several types of steel stems in different lenghths for use on truck and passenger wheels - They, of course, can install the stems much easier and faster and safer than you can - JMHO- DD

I always thought the little hoopeedoo inside the valve stem was called a valve core.
