To cap or not to cap?

Hello,

We are close to ordering a Jayco White Hawk from a wholesaler. I came here to ask about the purpose of the front caps on the Jayco campers, and whether or not we should get one, but then I saw the cap fading thread!

So, here are my questions;

Does anyone know if Jayco has fixed the fading problem? What is the purpose of the caps, as we're wondering if we should add that. Thank you so much!

Lisa

The front cap is not an option. It's the front end of your TT. They have been fading especially the darker colors, mind looked pretty sad. Thus far Jayco has been real stand-up and is repainting, mine included. That said I expect the 16's are not having the problem but can't say for certain. It's not just Jayco, many manufacturers are having this issue.

We may not be understanding one another. The front cap on a 2016 Jayco White Hawk is an option. This is off our options ordering list:

Front Molded Cap w/LED Headlights

I was under the assumption that it was the cap that people were referring to as having problems with fading. Maybe I misunderstood.

I think you have the option of upgrading to the molded cap w/LEDs. Otherwise, you'd get the standard cap.

Bill, that is correct.

That's where I'm confused then. Is the standard cap or the molded upgraded cap the one that's fading?

Its an $817 option though, must be more then just the lights upgrade. The molded cap must be different then the standard I suppose. The fading issue was on the dark brown caps.

Free Standing Table with (4) Chairs $472.00
30 lb. Gas Bottles $75.00
Glacier Package $187.00
Electric Stabilizer Jacks $525.00
Front Molded Cap w/LED Headlights $817.00
Chil N' Stor Exterior Refrigerator $210.00
Exterior Folding Table (2x4) $75.00
Outside Bumper Mount Grill $225.00
Roof Ladder $97.00

Sorry, I'm not up on current options. But yeah, it sounds like you can have a type A or type B cap. Either way you get a front cap. Mine (a 13) is fiberglass and the gellcoat doesn't hold up under the UV. The solution is to sand the gell and paint and clearcoat. As I said, I don't know if the 16's are having the problem or not. Jayco's 2 yr warranty seems to cover most that have the problem.

My husband and I just realized we were probably looking at this wrong. If you go to the bottom of this page 2016 White Hawk Travel Trailer Files & Downloads | Jayco, Inc. there is a small picture and under it, it says, "2016 White Hawk Brochure". We thought the TT on the right was the optional cap and that it was put over the front wall of the trailer pictured on the left. When Redhorse1 said, "it sounds like you can have a type A or type B cap", we realized you either get the standard cap, which is shown on the left or the upgraded cap shown on the right. (That's not just a front wall on the left TT, but a cap as well?) We're newbies....we're learning. LOL

So, it must be that both of those caps were fading then? Possibly, it didn't matter which one you had.

It takes a year or so for the fading to be noticeable and I don't recall reading about any 16's with the problem. With the number of re-paints they've done over the last few years I would exprct Jayco to address the problem. It was mostly the dark colors with the problem and I think they've shifted back to lighter colors too.

I recently noticed my 2014 White Hawk 27RBOX cap is fading... some oxidation as well. I was rather disappointed considering I waxed the thing 3 or 4 times in the first year. I guess I need to contact the dealership to arrange repainting?

Our 2016 White Hawk has the optional cap & I'm happy to have it despite the history of fade in previous models. No issues yet, but we've only had it 3 weeks and I have no idea how long it was on the lot beforehand. Ours will be parked in full sun, so I'll probably be one of the first to know if the problem continues.
