I have been at deer camp with 9" fresh snow and -8f. Quite frankly, that sucked.

Been there, done that. Even worse is a couple months after that deer camp trip you're supposed to be using the same deer camp as a snowmobiling camp, and the temps are in the 40s F and the snow is melting fast.

We left home mid-December anticipating rough weather. We headed to central TX and then to TN. Stayed with family in TX a few weeks and it got cold, but not bad. Snowed on New Years, but melted off the next day. We headed to TN-Montgomery Bell State Park and had it pretty much to ourselves. It snowed the day after we showed up. Again melted off quickly. Stayed there for several weeks and headed back to TX and that is where the fun starts. Freezing temps with snow, ice and sleet. You’ve seen the news. When we saw the low temps coming, we made sure we had propane and even bought an extra tank. The hose was fine until the rolling blackout happened and the heated hose and well pump stopped. Hose froze. Trailer did great keeping us warm running on battery and propane furnace. Waiting for the temps to get a little higher and then we will hook up the hose again. Just plan and anticipate. Extra blankets, bottled water, water in your tank, etc. We decided to stay in TX instead of heading home to AZ this past weekend because we didn’t want to get on the road and get stuck in the middle. Glad we stayed put. 🥶🔥☕️🥰

We’re about to leave NE PA, the window we found to leave will be Feb 25th, looking at 37ish the first day traveling south. We’ve been doing this trip back south for the last 6yrs, but never this late. (Usually right after Christmas) We had a frozen wet bay last year when it was suppose to be 37 over night and it went to 26! Luckily just a leaky water manifold that I’m replacing soon. But this year I’m well prepared. I have instituted my “winter Ops” I have installed heater coil cable and insulated all my exposed waterlines and added an outlet with a chicken coop T stat plug to run a small heater in the wet bay. I also installed a temp sensor transmitting to a display in my coach. I carry 2 electric heaters in the coach, snow tire cables and a shovel.
By no means am I trying to scare you, just be prepared for everything and everything. GO HAVE FUN, LIFE IS SHORT, NO REGRETS!

With our power off again I'm considering heading to our storage facility and spending the night at the trailer. At least I'll have heat.

If you think you'll be stressing the entire trip about freeze damage; not being able to stay warm; or road travel hazard, then staying home might be the ticket. A trip like that just isn't pleasurable. Basically, "If you choose to accept this mission..." Good luck, and Happy Trails...

Forgive me but....
Maybe I'm missing something. FT here who works on "windmills". Still in WY for the winter. We've seen -30° temp with -60° windchill in Mitchell SD.
Last week our low was -18° with a windchill of around -25°
What's the problem whether you go or not? Will you be inside your RV the entire time or out and about?
Whatever you decide to do this coming weekend, do it because you want to.

We cancelled our trip to Gulf Shores, AL coming from Chicago this week. All weather advisories from our home toward TN and MS said stay home unless travel was absolutely necessary. We sided for caution.

IMHO, if it's safe, go. If it's not safe, stay. Can't tell you how many times I canceled a trip, only to regret it later. Life's too short, get out there! Isn't that why you bought the rv?

1st time ever that I’ve been thankful that we canceled our trip! Thank goodness we were home during the rolling blackouts here in TX! I was up constantly in the middle of the night chopping ice in the pool, moving the plugs for the space heaters over to the generators, firing up the generator...etc. I was able to catch that the pool heater caught on fire and put out with a fire extinguisher. Now it looks like I have some gutters that are hanging on by a thread with the ice that’s in them. I checked on the 5er today and she is safe & sound in storage. If we had gone, there’s no doubt in my mind that I would have had more damage to the sticks & bricks and have to be repairing the 5er because of the rolling blackouts. Go with your gut & so what you think is best!
Edit: I forgot to tell y'all that the DW was calling it #safethepoolteam. The only problem was that she wanted to be cut from the team!

We left San Antonio on the 12 th . Took 9 hours to get to only Ozona
Next day we got to Big Bend after 100 miles of freezing fog
Then once there had 0 degrees and one night of horrific wind
Left Mon the 16th and had to seriously hunt out an open gas station
Looped around Marfa and Alpine and Ft Davis and had to wait in a gas line but did get to El Paso on schedule

Those areas are equipped to handle that kind of weather, Texas is not.
I'm glad we cancelled our trip too, but kind of wish I had my camper in the driveway. I thought about going to get it Friday, and I should've listened to my gut. I have LOTS of supplies and equipment in there that would have been helpful this week. We were fine, and could even work from home ... then the rolling black-outs. We lit a fire, burned through everything we had in about a day (plenty for a "normal" TX winter, not enough for this event). Got some from a neighbor who removed a couple trees and kept them. Burned through about 3 "Radio Flyer" wagons worth over the course of about 3 days. But kept the house tolerable. And we lost water. We filled the bathtubs while we still had some flow, so at least we could flush the toilets (a trick I learned having lived through a few hurricanes). And I keep plenty of drinking water on hand along with a Life Straw for each of us.
We fared better than most due to my mild "prepper" attitude. And we found our weaknesses and will close those gaps in the VERY near future. Loss of power was not something I had considered since in almost 12 years, we've never lost power for more than a few minutes, and even those "events" I could count on one hand. Losing power for multiple days was not something I had thought to prepare for.

4 years in a row my wife and I plan with the neighbors and go camp in December right after Christmas, or just before Christmas. 4 years running now we show up and by the following morning a cold front shows up and the weather is miserable. As we leave the park on the last day, guess what...the weather turns nice.
Our last trip was to lake Havasu, with 40 mile winds and cold as hell. I told my wife I am not driving 3-5 hours in the winter to chase cold fronts, I’m done with that.
