Tote-n-stor for fresh water

First and foremost, we never drink the water in the fresh water tanks. We use bottled water for drinking.

While dry camping at a CG with no hookups but a dump station and fresh water, I use a 25 gallon tote-n-stor to empty the grey/black tanks and take them to the dump station....rather than take down the entire trailer. This requires a trip or two but works GREAT. Much less hassle.

To replenish the fresh water tank I was thinking of getting a 32 gallon unit. I have a water pump to get the water from any container into the trailer tank. I've done it with buckets before but want more capacity at one time.

Has anyone done this? or anything like it?

If it works for you why not. I have never used my FW tank. But I wouldn't want to tear down and move my trailer to fill tank or dump black tank.

I do it by carrying jugs from the nearest campground tap. I have never been far enough away that I had to actually drive to a tap.
I have thought about one of those big fold up portable "water bags" but after I thought about it , it would get all musty an slimy inside from not being fully dried. So I continue to carry jugs. Gives me something to do, and I usually have help.

I have one of these tanks. Leg Style Storage Tank, 35 gal. - For Life Out Here i put a valve on it and use a pump to transfer to the tank. It fits perfectly in the bed of my truck. I purchased it for our old TT that only had a 30 gallon tank. I still bring it with us and fill it at the campground just in case.

I saw one of those tanks and it looked interesting. I opted for the wheels though. Might be useful

And I was using 5 gallon buckets but it was taking forever to fill the 83 gallon tank.

I'm coming to understand that there are two types of RV'ers out there.
1) Folks that pick a nice campground and stay for a week or two.
2) Those of us who like to hit the road and financially support the oil industry. We never stay anyplace more than 3 nights - either on weekend camping or on longer vacations which typically are cross country trips.

So for me - having to dump a tank or fill a tank has never been a problem even with our last TT which only had 30 Gal. tanks. My new unit has 65 gal - I have NO idea what I'm going to do with that much water :-).

Well out here in Arizona, the big thing is escaping the heat and heading up north during the summer. So I guess that would make a lot of us the "find a nice campground" types.

This is cheaper than using a blue tank for FW and safer too and when traveling takes up less space.. I have been using this for 8+ years now

Seann45 - that looks very interesting. Many CG water sources are just tanks that are filled and then gravity drained...which means they don't have great water pressure. It looks like this bag needs some water pressure behind the filling to fully expand it?

We carry two 5-gallon JERI-CANs for fresh water and two AQUA-TAINERs for gray water.
I also carry one of those two wheeled folding totes that makes it easy if the water source is close by... My OFF-ROAD POPUP trailer has the cassette potty so that is another 6-gallon waste tank that fills up on us and needs dumped somewhere...

Alot of places allows us to pour our gray water around the trees. Some don't...

Usually where we camp is a central located primitive out house and most often they have a water spigot with them..

So we just do the carry the waste water to the primitive out house and pour it down the toilet and bring back fresh water...

We always spot out where the water is located going in to our off-road camping spots...

Back in the late 60s and early 70s when we was living in the greater Phonix areas we used to head for the high country all the time . It was JEEPS and util trailers back then and TENT Camping... Lots of good times had when three or four go along together much like this GOOGLE image photo..



Nothing better than waking up to the red rocks around Sedona or Jermone in the morning sun...

Always had to have a good PLAN B for water...

Mine is about 12 years old. I flush it with a clorox/water mix at the beginning of each season. I have a 12v pump (about $50 at Northern Tool) , powered off my trailer hitch connection, to power the pump, so rather than depending on gravity to move the water, I pump it to where I need it. The nice thing is that the bladder rolls up to about the size of a small couch pillow.

I pump mine also as the bladder is too heavy for the roof of my pickup.

No it wont Dave.. but a 12V RV water pump will speed things up

Same thing here. As a kid that was my job to fill 3 times a day. When my son is old enough it will become his job.
