Tow Vehicle observation

While driving from Charlotte NC back to Austin with my new truck we counted the number of fivers and large trailers we encountered both directions. Numbers were low as most traveling done in spring summer I guess.
But we counted 37.
32 dodge cummins
4 ford diesels
1 Chevy duramax
I never see the duramax around Austin area towing as they can't handle the Texas heat and are generaly a gentleman truck, not a work truck, So no surprise there.
One ford 2013 6.7 on side of road at top of black mountain...radiator leaking and overheated. He had road side assistance coming.
Not bashing trucks...but this is reality.

Significantly different than here in Wyoming. Fords and GM products are at the top of the chain with Rams/Dodges and Tundras bringing up the rear.

I love a scientific survey. Oh never mind, I see you are a Ram driver.

I never realized how many people drive chevy impala's

until I bought one...

It's an interesting observation for sure, but im willing to go out on a limb and think that a few may have been missed... He did imply towing. I bet if it were just truck for truck, the numbers would be a lot closer.

No hard feelings THS

Actually we sorta kept up with non-towing. Ford 1/2 ton king for sure, then Chevy then dodge then Toyota. Only saw three Nissan frontiers no Titans. Saw several old nissians and toyotas being towed by Mexicans to Mexico.
More Chevys pulling fishing size boats with 1/2 ton.
Freightliner is number one in big trucks (Dalimer Chrysler now owned by fiat) international second and Volvo third and kenworth and peterbuilt in the rear. Big heavy duty dominated by Mac. Not scientific but what we observed.

We used to count cows on our side of the car. Those type surveys do help the trip go faster.
When we are on the road, we always gander at every fifth wheel we meet or pass.

I think all the Fords were already up early and way out in front of you. I do see alot of Rams out in the middle of the day, thats when the Fords are resting and owners are sitting under awning sipping iced tea.Try getting up eariler.

come on, its night and day, you see freight shakers volvos and internationals all over because they are the kia or hyndai of a big truck. All fleets or owner ops that can't find any good paying work. Look at all the heavy haulers or guys with pride, petes and kw

Ha. Can't say as I counted but I drove home to NC from Philadelphia Monday and noticed just how few RV's of all types I saw. Usually there are Dime a dozen. Saw 5 the whole way home.

Last week we drove down I-65 south to go to granddaughters basketball game. On the way home we probably saw a 100 RV's from multiple manufacturers. There really pouring out of northern Indiana now. Lot's of them were being pulled by Dodge duallys.

The Mexicans tow "Jap Crap" to Mexico because they know they last forever and never ever break down since they have no way of getting parts or repairing them. Kind of like Cuba with the 50's and 60's cars. I've had two Toyotas and never had even one issue. Well, except the throttle stuck and the tires all blew out on my last Springdale TT once I exceeded 100mph. Still waiting on the recall...

Regarding head count.....ever notice how many sparrows there are in your back yard, and how few bald eagles you see in the yard?
Just asking......

I think it's part of the Austin weirdness. You might not understand, but Ustabslim knows what I'm talking about.

I am awaiting the build of my Ram 2500.

I think it has 2 factors. 1 - what manufacturers are local, people buy what is close. 2 - who is giving the best deals.

I think more buy for the best deal than they do for the specific truck. Where I live there is a Ford and Toyota dealer, that is what you see the most. Where I work every month is Ford and Ram. That is what I see a mix of.

Then again, I bought my truck because I grew up with a Dodge and Chevy local and fell in love with the Ram. This definitely factored into my decision. I looked at all the big 3 and felt Ram was the best for me in a HD truck.
