TP Question
Nice topic for a Sunday. :-) I haven't seen this question raised here so thought i would throw it out there. Is Septic Tank Rated Toilet Paper safe to use in our RV's?? At a third the cost of RV rate TP it certainly would be a money saver to use the Septic Tank Rated stuff.

Great question. We have used Septic Tank RV paper and other RV related toilet papers. Have not had any problems. My guess on this one is how long the paper stays in the tank. We own a TT so most of the Black Tank "storage" issues are mute since it is seldom that our tank isn't emptied every few days, and, we use only "RV marked" products.

40 plus years and that's all we ever used. Never bought the "RV" stuff.. The trick s to be sure to add enough water..

I never fell for that special rv paper theory. We use the same septic safe paper we use at home, available at any grocery store. I have enjoyed reading about some of other folks strange and stranger ideas on this subject.

I took a jar of water an put a piece of toilet paper in it then shook it. If it didn't start to dissolve within seconds I moved on until I found one that would. Found Scott's worked an it's cheaper than the rv stuff

We also just use regular septic safe toilet paper without issue. I just have to remind my youngest daughter that you don't need the entire roll every time she visits the facility.

Funny story about that.
We were babysitting our grand daughter who was about 4/5 at the time and my wife hears her counting as she walks by the bathroom, 1-2-3-4. When she comes out my wife asks why were you counting? She responds "mommy said I can only use 4 sheets of TP"...

That's too funny. At least you know that she listed to her parents.

I do like Woodworker does, put a couple of sheets in a pint jar, see how long til it sort of dissolves. Quicker the better. Scotts seems to work well, as do some other brands. Septic safe is the first thing to look for.

We've been using Angel Soft for 2 or 3 years with no problems, however we thoroughly wand flush the tank almost every trip. Maybe excessive but it keeps working for us.

I did the water jar test also. We use Charmin, it dissolved just as quickly as the RV paper. I would never spend the extra for rv toilet paper...regular toilet paper is expensive enough!

We are currently having another run on tp, bread and milk thanks to Izzy and the frothy media around here.

Use Happy Camper in you black tank and you really will not have to worry about the TP or anything else in the tank.

Well,, I'm convinced. you can pick up a 12 pack for the price of a four pack.. And the rolls are twice the amount. My wife will be happy, she hates that single ply RV Stuff. LOL.

This!
After dumping and flushing several times I fill the black tank with 2-4 minutes of flush water. Before leaving the CG I try to fill the black tank to about 1/4 full and add a pack of chem and maybe 1/4 cop of dawn. While under way the “sloshing” helps loosen stuff clinging to the tank walls and sensors. I store it that way too. If the black tank is empty any paper or “other organics” will turn into “concrete”. But, keep in mind that NOTHING is fool proof to a sufficiently talented fool.

I was able to find the 1 pound bottles at our local AGWAY store recently. If you have one in your area, you may want to take a look.
