Trailer damage

From ecstasy to agony. I picked up the 2016 Jayco Jay Flight SLX from a fantastic owner today, drove almost 90 minutes to where we are storing it and somehow didn’t pay enough attention going around a turn inside the storage facility and hit another trailer (no damage to the other trailer). To say I’m annoyed with myself is an understatement - I’m devastated. Life goes on though. A very kind guy at the storage facility said he can do a patch job but I prefer to fix it properly but guess it depends on cost. Any thoughts / recommendations without getting reamed?

Feel your pain

Get a short term patch on it to keep the water out.

Bad news, when I saw a tt getting resided, they started at the top and worked down. This means the whole side might have to be removed.

I hope that’s not the case. We will see i guess. Mistakes happen but it’s dumb mistakes that are so annoying

Looks like it's just that top grey section. If the next section lower is good, I dont think that'd be too bad of a fix really. Shouldn't take any more than a day at the dealer. Get a full length section and replace the whole thing.
Look at the bright side, be glad you dont have a one piece, smooth side trailer with that damage.

I did something similar last year.
Both my silverado dually and my Yukon XL were parked in the garage. Dually backed in and the Yukon pulled in. Wife needed the 3rd row seat removed from the Yukon. So I pulled it out and carry it like a suitcase and I had to spin it just a little bit and it lightly bumped my dually on the front fender. As soon as I did that I was so torqued I knew it wasnt gonna be good. When I saw the dent I almost hurled that seat like a hammer throw event in the Olympics. Next day I had a paintless dent removal guy at my house. I stood there the whole time watching this guy work his magic. It took him better than an hour to get it all out and believe me, I looked this thing over from every angle, felt it from every angle and youd never know. He quoted me $175 to do it and once he was done I told him the job wasnt worth $175. So I flipped him $200. Lol!
Take it to the dealer tomorrow, have them get the new panel and do a quick, temp repair job, and get the process going. Sooner it's fixed, sooner you'll feel better about it.
Dont beat yourself up over it too much. You got lucky, minimal damage really.
You'll laugh about it some day. AND, you wont make that mistake again! Lol!

Btw, I'm jealous of the palm trees in the background and you being able to use your rig!
Mine is under a cover and a half a foot of snow and it's still snowing outside right now. Winter is half over and the last half is the worst.

Hate to say this but don't aluminum siding go on trailers the same way it goes on houses? Top down?

That’s what I was thinking but the way they build these things it’s anyone’s call.

1st did you insure it ? If yes give them a call . If not, do a patch then have some more striping added to cover.

Simple.... Take it to an RV dealer to get an estimate of the repairs, or call your insurance company.

Decide if you want it fixed right, or do you want to patched.

If you have no insurance just patch it now.
I guess I would use aluminum duct tape or gorilla black duct tape.
Could take a dealer or repair place months to fix and it will be costly.

We had similar happen when pulling out of our driveway. The trailer slid on sheer ice sideways and hit a utility trailer as we were leaving for Florida We put a garbage bag over it and sealed with liquid rubber and after six weeks of travel came home and had it fixed. We had insurance . Cost about a grand. We had molding involved so your fix may be different in cost.

Just received first price guide from a Jayco dealer (based off the photo only): $3 to 4,000. My day just went from pretty crappy to very very crappy

What?!?!? Sounds like someone is trying you to make an insurance claim and line their pocket with $1000 bills.
Somewhere that math dont add up. If it takes an 8hr day to do it at $100/hr that's $800 and that length of siding cant be more than $100. Say its $200 and that's still only $1000.
Time to get another quote I'd say.

I thought so too. I didn’t expect it to be very cheap but certainly didn’t expect that including some feedback from other people that know the space better than me.

I will keep searching and speaking to people and if anyone has any recommended repairers in Southern California (Los Angeles), I would appreciate it.
