Trailer Hitch lock?

Hi all,

I own property in upstate NY where I bring the trailer to and leave for weeks at a time. It occured to me that while not likely, someone could theoretically pull up, hitch my trailer and drive away with it. Does anyone have a recommendation for some sort of lock or something to prevent this from potentially happening?

Thank you,
Chris

Probably any lock or log chain could be defeated in a rural area.
I've saw a guy in NY or Boston that bought a wheel lock to keep his car from being stolen. That might be something to think about.
The kind the parking wars people use. Might pick one up used or on the internet.
A wireless security system for about $15/month, $299 up front, month to month no contract.

Just a thought.

I have a basic coupler lock and a tongue lock knowing it is just going to slow them down but not stop them if they really want it. Will probably keep them from pulling up at a camp site and running off because they would call some attention to themselves - but good insurance is probably the only good solution ;0

Your welcome.

This would work for entry, but I was thinking you could rig up something that would swing in front of the motion detector if the trailer was moved?
Maybe combined with motion sensor outdoor light?
Maybe put the motion sensor on a string :-)

Just a thought.
Best regards,
Doug

Depends on just how searious you want to be. There this guy on the web that actually shows everyone how to buy a pic set and un lock all of these new different RV locks.
If there is 120v. power there buy your self a good power jack, an electric impack, remove all 4 tires/rims and set the frame down on cement blocks. maybe an hours worth of work.

I know that you can purchase locks for the x-chocks, but once again it would be something to only slow them down. Not a bad idea to remove the wheels...might be a little labor involved, but worth it in the long run. If not all, at least one side. Or some sort of metal stake driven into the ground, park directly on top of it, and secure the stake to your axle. Just thinking outloud here.

This is the lock I use. They have videos on their website that show many of the locks you see on store shelves being quickly defeated.

Take the wheels off and put blocks under the axle.

Just make sure your insurance policy stays up to date, the way I look at it, if someone really wants to steal it, they will, regardless of your efforts, locks keep the honest guy honest, insurance covers the theives

I use the Master Lock setup. It is heavy duty and would be difficult, in my opinion, to remove without the key.
