LOL. I was just starting to post this as well, Murff. Definitely points out the importance of properly connecting your safety chains! Here’s another news account: https://magicvalley.com/news/local/r...=home-trending

I saw the report on the news. The safety chains on that trailer must be attached more securely than they are on my Jayco.... Mine are only attached with some 5/16 or 3/8" bolts and nuts.

JOF link below of earlier thread on the same accident, and JOF member noted in his post...; "Luckily my rescue team was fortunate enough to rescue both occupants and 2 dogs from this crash."

Thanks for posting the links to the news article, I was involved in the rescue efforts and it was amazing that this ended with only non-life threatening injuries.

There is no way possible to truly pay justice to the magnitude of this incident. I am humbled by the teamwork involved in successfully extracting this couple and their dogs!

Here is a close up photo of the chain connection to the trailer frame, the safety chains are welded into the frame. Notice, looking closely you can see tension on one chain , the other is hanging loosely into the fold of the tire, and the tire in view is the right rear tire, the rear axle has been completely displaced such that the tire is positioned directly under the receiver hitch.

The 2 sets of heavy chain are wrapped around the Reese hitch, and the other around the Ford receiver frame, they are secured to a semi truck who witnessed the accident and is positioned as an anchor (without tension to prevent the disrupting the stability as the Ford is hanging precariously off the bridge)
