Trailer Stolen

I read a post and was very surprised to read that someone had a trailer stolen. Today in our town someone stolen trailer removed from there house a 20’ travel trailer. This is crazy! I can’t get over this. To think someone entered a person’s property and took a travel trailer! Come on.

Heard they recovered two stolen Travel Trailers in a desert homeless camp near Lancaster.. No way in hell would i want it back..

The first few seasons of the AMC television series "Breaking Bad" shows what happens to a lot of stolen RVs: they become rolling methamphetamine labs.

This just keeps getting worse. Nothing is safe today. I left my trailer during the winter at the campground. For over 10 years at a seasonal site it was never bothered. I guess this is America today.

Come on down to south Florida….nothing is safe down here! Rv’s & campers get stolen all the time with no recovery. Same with boats. Many of them find their way into cargo containers & shipped overseas. Huge black market for rv’s, campers, boats, off road vehicles etc. It’s starting to spread countrywide for different reasons now (drug production, people smuggling etc). Expect the trend to continue….

We take a couple reports a month on stolen trailers. It's pretty common - not catalytic convertor common.

My son is in law enforcement and says in his area, the "professional" thieves will back up to a trailer with hitch and pin locks installed and will wrap the safety chains around their truck hitch and simply drive away.

They then drive around the corner somewhere close by and then take their time cutting off any hitch lock and pin lock. They remove the trailer license plate and replace it with a stolen plate. Then off they go to sell the stolen trailer for money and/or drugs. My son says the experienced thieves can steal the trailer and have it ready to drive far away in way under 15 minutes.

I also use a locking tire chock on my travel trailer. Every little bit helps.

When we lived in Florida cars were stolen all the time and shipped to South America

Take all the wheels off, Install a tongue lock, put down all levelers and put wheel locks on all studs. They may still get it, but it'll take them forever.

My dealer had a couple of new ones stolen and were actually found at a rv park less than 20 miles away being used as rent houses

I was involved in a trailer coupler lock several years ago and purchased one for my Escape 17 (25k trailer) I found no other lock on the market at that time that I could not break off.
The Mega Hitch lock is worth looking at as theft seems easier than working for a living.
Last I looked it is a $200 lock but ya get what ya pay for.

I'm lucky to live in a small town in northern California where we don't have these kinds of problems. That said, Someone tried to break into my trailer while stored under cover at the local fairgrounds a couple years ago. They were unsuccessful in getting into mine, several others weren't so lucky. Nothing stolen as far as I know, but lots of damage to the interiors. After that, I decided I would take the option of parking the trailer in front of my house and accept I would have to be more vigilant in performing roof maintenance. I installed a 50 amp RV outlet pedestal so I can keep my rig plugged in whenever its at home, and I utilize the self leveling jacks when parked so it makes it a harder target to hook up and go.

I'm also looking into getting one of these Proven RV locks that not only lock up the coupler, but the safety chains as well. Pricey protection, but my RV is pricey too.

Don't count on that forever. Small towns and surrounding areas are often high unemployment areas coupled with heavy meth use. Many rural areas across the country have serious problems with both. I would never have thought northern WI would ever have this happening, but meth use and trailer thefts are rampant up there.
