Trailer Tire Speed Rating

So I was on Tire Rack this evening looking for options for a new ST tire for the HTT. Not many options for 13” tires.

I found interesting, while comparing the only two 13” tires. Both the Goodyear Maarathon and the PowerKing Towmax, tires are very similar. Under the speed rating of the tires both have an “NR” code, with a speed rating of 87 mph. That is clearly not the speed rating I have always heard for trailer tires. I think more research will be required.

By the way, I hate Tire Racks new website, it is nearly impossible to find trailer tires. But I did locate a good article about tire care.

PowerKing's website on tire care is very interesting.

Where did you find the 87 mph wording? This is right from Goodyears web site:

• Goodyear Marathon Special Trailer tires, with the “ST” size designation, are speed rated
at 65 MPH (105 km/h) under normal inflation and load conditions.
• This speed rating is based on Tire and Rim Association loads and inflation pressures for ST
trailer tires without a service description for speeds up through 65 mph. (ref: TRA 2013
Year Book)

As to the care and maintenance on Power King's web site that is what, most if not all, trailer tire manufacturers recommend. As it says letting a trailer sit is worse than using it, you will find the same for MH tires.
