travel bars

Hi Guys. I have seen a few people mention "Travel bars" on their slides. I have looked up on top the slide when it is in and can't see anything for a lock device. Do all slides have something to lock it in place? Any help appreciated.

Travel bars are nice as long as you keep them well stocked.

Ha Ha...Lady Fitzgerald...that's a good one. It almost got by me...

Our last unit had travel bars...2007 26L but our new one doesn't 2011 29L. I found that a little weird since the both have basically the same slide unit. And the owner's manual for the 26L was very clear about making sure the travel locks (bars) were installed.

And by the way...only once in 3 years did I forget to replace them before travelling...and never forgot to remove them before extending the slide...whew...

Travel Bars

Some Rv have them and some don't. Don't know why. We had a Monaco built 5th wheel that said they were to prevent leaking around the slide out while traveling? We have had 2 5th wheels that did not have travel bars. I think it may just be an added safety factor that the RV manufactures recommend. If you have them, DO NOT RUN THE SLIDE OUT UNTIL YOU REMOVE THEM!!! I would check with the manufacture as to why they are required/recommended.

Mine has a slide lock for the top of the slide. Without the slide lock in place the slide may move in and out slightly at the top with the motion of traveling, as the mechanism assembly is entirely at the bottom. It also seals tighter with the slide lock in place. As said some slides have them and some do not, and always remember to remove the slide lock before extending the slide!.

I just picked up my 2011 jayFLIGHT, 28bhs on Saturday. It did indeed come with a travel bar. (I too would like it well stocked) I asked the service department about it. I have never seen anyone with a travel bar. He told me that the 28bhs is the only unit that comes with them. He also said he sees no reason for it, and would not use it, but if I'm inclined, by all means use it, but make sure you remove it before trying to move the slide. he has seen them go through the wall.

Not sure what I'm gonna do.....

Try to gently push on the top of the slide with it retracted. It will move out and back at the top more easily then I am comfortable with. That`s why I use the slidelock when traveling.

LOL. That was my first thought Jeannie. I thought I'd learn how to securely and safely store the liquor bottles and glassware in my TT.

Guess I'll have to figure that one out on my own...

OK. We had some fun. But now, let's get back on topic (Do I sound like a moderator, or what?). Sorry to be a party pooper.

For those who never saw a travel bar or what one looks like when it's in place, I took this picture last night of a travel bar as installed in my TT. My slideout is rather large (about 14 feet) so I have two travel bars; one on each end.

The travel bar ends rest on what is the roof of the slideout. When you have the travel bar in its place, there is a lever on the bar that is pulled which extends it slightly, thus "locking" it in place.

Yeah, Crabman. That style appears to install similar to those bars that you put between the sides of your pickup bed to keep your cargo from sliding around.

I have one of those bars in my pickup shell that I'm using for a clothes rod. The two cargo bars I actually use as cargo bars are ratcheting units that look like non-sanforized versions of the ones the big boys use.

Thanks for posting photos of the travel bars. I had never seen one before and could only come up with the wrong visualization. Slainte!

We have one that rests on the top of the slide in the cupboard (our slide is a couch slide). It looks a little diffent then the ones shown here. I loaned my camera to my daughter but can take a pic of it this weekend when we are camping.

Now the wine, it just gets wedged up in the corner of one of the cabinets with a lot of stuff in it. Beer travels well in the fridge
