Travel from North Dakota to Nashville

We are planning a trip to Nashville. As I see it there are two possible routes from North Dakota. Minneapolis, to Chicago, to Indianapolis then Nashville. The other route avoids Chicago and Indi. My questions is how good or bad is it to travel through those cities hauling a fifth wheel.

Avoid Chicago, terrible traffic and toll highways.

You might Mapquest your route. Getting off the interstates and traveling the old US highways is an adventure in itself and no tolls.
