You won't be asked, once you give permission when your install the app, it can access without your knowledge. Having worked in computer security, I refuse to use these type of apps. Retired from Homeland Security and I know how they use that type of information. For that reason, I have never used social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc).

I am aware Apple, Google, Intel and Microsoft track information but if you go online or use a cell phone, it's a fact of life. Just don't see any reason to let anyone and everyone get more information than they really need. NextExit is available in paperback (yes, it doesn't update like an app, but it doesn't have the ability to spy on you.

Am for the most part of the same mind. I am not on social media and don't inable the tracking ability on my phone and pc. It puts a smile on my face when I see so many of the younger generation posting every intimate detail about their personal life and then come out of their shoes when someone violates their personal space. To each their own but I have never needed an app on my phone to find a gas station [my gps does that if I want it to] or my phone popping up unsolicited trivia about upcoming points of interest out in front of my travels.

None of the gas station apps are reliable for the small towns on the us and state highways. Never can be sure if they will be open, or even if they will still be in business. Not even google can be counted on. Have been burned more than once.

PS after a long career with the govt I really don"t care who tracks me. If you think you are "hiding" you are kidding yourself, even if you don't use a cell phone or computer.

I just downloaded this app and did not give any of that permission. When asked for credit cards you can hit skip and go on . I have NEVER given out a credit card for any app on line.

I agree many ask for too many permissions, but if you really think they don't already know everything about you, well.. I enjoyed the 50's also but that time has passed. .

I use truck stops to fill my rig due to the dual side fill on my Seneca, but for you, you can find smaller cheaper places, but since I live in NM and have traveled 40 many times, I can give you where I would stop if I had 230 miles per tank. With the assumption you are going to come down 70, I would fill in St. Louis, Springfield and then Tulsa. From there go past OKC and get to Weatherford if you can. From there to Amarillo, then Santa Rosa and then you have two options. You can fill in Moriarty or Edgewood NM and take 344 north to highway 14 and go through Madrid (where they filmed the movie Wild Hogs), which is a cool artsy, touristy town and go right into Santa Fe from there; or you can keep on 40 and then go 25 north in Albuquerque and fill at one of gas stations in Bernalillo NM which would be cheaper than Moriarty/Edgewood and then continue on 25 north to Santa Fe. Note that since you are going west on 40 in the Spring, expect there to be some headwind. This will burn your gas pretty quick. I get about 6 MPG in my Seneca and got 8 MPG when I had my F350 and 5th wheel when fighting that wind. Going east I was able to get 12 in the Seneca and 15-16 in the F350.

Lots of good info here. Thanks everyone.
RyRoRyan, what about taking 285 from Clines Corners to Santa Fe?

Clines corners is a way to go as well. However it is quite possibly the most boring an unscenic 60 minutes of your life. There is also nothing between there and SF so if you have a problem, you are going to be waiting a while for help. However, if you are looking to “just get there” coming from eastern NM, it will be the quickest. North 14 is much more scenic but it a litte more curvy in some spots. 40 to 25 is for those who like interstate as much as possible.

I would say not the most boring. Try I10 or 20 across west TX

NM14 is a nice road but it is a tourist road on weekends. I used to do my sunday motorcycle ride using that road (we lived 2 miles from it).

I40 to I25 is usually OK. Rush hour can be a bit hectic with the 'speed demons' on I25 to Santa Fe.

If you want something in between then take Tramway Blvd around Albuquerque. That is the road I'd use when going north out of town.

And, if you want a bit slower then take Old 66 instead of I40 (NM333) once you get to Moriarty. It will also get you to Tramway at the outskirt of Albuquerque.
