Tree fell on our X213

A tree fell on our slide out on our 2012 JayFeather X213 this last Friday. Has anyone ever had a slide out repaired from damage like this? Does anyone know how much it takes for the insurance to total a unit out? The slide out trim is bent, the roof has been crushed in, the ceiling inside the slide out is crushed in a little, the frame on which it all slides in and out of the trailer on is all bent, and the frame on the back wall that it sits in is bent out.

Tree fell on our X213

Well that stinks.. Sorry for your damage. I had a tree fall on my boat once, wasn't pretty.
I think the insurance break over point on totaling is about 70 percent, but may be less. Dealer will know being they deal with them ( ins comp) all the time. When i had wind damage my awning and roof, state farm told me to take it in to dealer or repair shop and they would go look at it. I chose a independent repair shop for my repairs. Good luck and hope you get it taken care of so you can get back camping.

Ouch, not nice. Sounds like a lot of damage to the slide and trailer, it might be a write off.

Yeah I'm glad no one was hurt either. I'll keep updating. I'm going to drop it off in the next few days to get a estimate for repair.

If the damage is contained to the slide out. It might not be too big of a deal. Remove the slide out and replace with a new one.

Ouch, glad all ok...

Being a 2012 model it might not have the updated the slide motor - be sure to bring that up when the dealer looks at it.

The good side of this if there is such a thing, you will get a new re-alignment of the slide which was a somewhat of a problem with the earlier model slides where the end of the slide would start getting lowered with time. This would touch the cushions of the furniture when the slide would be coming back in and cause tears in the cushions etc... fresh alignment fixes that....

hope it all works out for you... I was surprised with my daughters auto that had a tree fall on it in their yard and I would have suspected the home owners policy would have covered it and it turned out to be the car insurance that covered the loses. All was with the same State Farm Insurance so all came out ok...

good luck.....

Usually if the cost to repair is greater then the insured value they will write it off. Never take their first offer unless you are happy with the figure. Hopefully you had a replacement cost policy.

Be very careful that you don't overlook anything. We had a claim and missed the slide out motor mount and it finally broke the next summer. I had a hard time explaining to my insurance company why it wasn't caught earlier. Go over the coach with a fine toothed comb. Make sure you don't have hidden damage, especially frame damage. Also if the landing jacks were down ensure that they were not damaged.

They probably won't total it out but in the event they do, take the money the ins pays and negotiate a better deal with a repair shop. They might give you a better deal if they know its not an insurance job.

Your experience is why we don't park it under a tree on our property. Like shaded sites so we are almost always near trees in the campground but no issues over our 35 years of camping. For others, if debris falls on your camper during a storm get on the roof and do a good inspection. A minor hole in the rubber roof can destroy your RV in just a couple rains but can be repaired in most cases very cheaply.

Talked with the insurance adjuster today. We still don't have the estimate for repairs yet but I expressed my concern about damage being overlooked. He said he can't say for sure yet, without a estimate, but because it's a lite weight trailer and they have good value in the salvaged market, there's a chance it could be totaled out. We'll just have to wait and see now.

It would be a shame to total it but for you it's likely for the best. If it's not repaired well it will come back to haunt you and even if it is it will hurt your resell value. Hope it all works out well for you.

From the looks of it they will probably total it.. as they would have to remove the wall and replace the rubber roof.. both very costly.
Sorry bud..

Tree fell on our X213

Got a long awaited email from the dealer today. He said they are still working on the estimate. He claims it's taking more time on Jayco's end for the quote because it's not a very common slide mechanism. He says they will replace the whole slide out ROOF section and some stuff for the slide out mechanism. He doesn't think that'll total it out....but then again he's not the adjuster and he still won't even give me a ballpark figure on a dollar amount for the repair...so I still don't have any better idea of what's going on then before. Tomorrow will mark 3 weeks since the tree fell on it. A week and a half had passed and when I finally got sick of waiting and called the adjuster and he said "yeah, I went to look at it and the damage is limited to just a little bent trim on the back side of the slide...everything else looks good to me". This is the first time he and the tech looked at it, they MISSED 90% of the damage!!! I got down right ****ed and yelled at the adjuster, because I had sent him pictures of ALL THE DAMAGE when the claim first started before I even took it anywhere. And I told the dealer in great detail about all the damage before they even looked at it. After taking a 2nd look at it this last Monday, and noticing everything I told them about, they finally started the real estimate on Monday afternoon. I'm still waiting to see the parts list on the estimate (if I ever get one) to find out what they have missed the 2nd time around because I still haven't heard the service guy even mention the bent frame in the back wall that supports the slide out when it's extended.
If I was just a average guy, and not so into the details, I can only imagine how I'd get this thing back! What a pain in the rear this has been! I wish they'd just total the dang thing and I could move on. Because if they go ahead with repairs, I'm just gonna need to baby sit this process the whole time :-/

Be very nice to the insurance adjuster. They can be real pricks if they don't like you. Clearly you are frustrated, but anger shouldn't be towards the adjuster -- his hands are tied until an estimate is issued. Although you may not think so, the adjuster just wants to right a check and move on with this too. If you have a reputable insurance company they don't mess around with claims like this...they have no incentive to do anything but pay the claim and keep a happy customer. However if the adjuster thinks there is no way you will be happy he won't even try.

The myth is insurance companies make money by collecting more in premiums than paying in claims...but the real money for them is investing and loaning the massive amount of float capital they have. It's only huge disasters were claims can hurt an insurance company. Individual claims are a rounding error on their books.

Tree fell on our X213

A 10 year old child could have found the damage on the trailer after looking at the pictures I sent the agent, adjuster, and dealer. I'm not walking on egg shells. I demand the service I pay for.

The dealer left the trailer outside their gate for me this weekend so I could winterize it. While I was there, I wanted to take pictures of the gasket/seal that rides on the top of the slide to clean water and debris off as you bring it in. I wanted to show the dealer that it's no longer even touching the slide, but while I was up there I also noticed that the bent aluminum structure inside that back wall that supports the slide when it's out, is bent out so far it's starting to crack the fiberglass on the wall in the upper corners of the opening in the wall for the slide. Looks like the whole wall needs to be replaced now as well. This may be the final nail in the coffin for the old gal....
Sent the pictures in a email to the dealer. These look pretty clear
