Truck stop dump stations

I used a truck stop dump station for the first time yesterday. I was at a race track for 3 days and there was no dump station available. There is a Love's truck stop 10 miles from my home so I decided to dump there.

What a disaster. There was a 90 degree turn to get to the dump site then I had to back up to line up and get close enough. Then the dump pipe is 8 inches higher the my dump port. (18 inches above the basin level) It was a job but I managed to "walk" the black water through the hose. Then I removed the hose from the dump pipe and drain the grey water into the overflow basin.

It would probably be OK for motorhomes and 5th wheels but totally useless for travel trailers.

Are most truck stop dump stations set up this way or was I just unlucky enough to get designed by a contractor who knows less than nothing about RV's?

I'm going to go "conspiracy theory" on you here....

What if the truck stop company simply doesn't want to deal with RV's? Make it tough to use by anyone who can't handle a big-rig. Stay with their core clients...

During our recent trip to South Dakota, I was suprised to see dump stations at pretty much every rest area along our route. Very easy access to them and at ground level. They had a separate pull off lane at either the entrances or exits.

The few I have seen, all have been fairly well laid out. Might have just been that one.

You should contact the local district manager's office. I did that a few years ago due to the layout to get out of the pumps after filling. They directed RVs into a K-rail trap. I called, spoke to some lady. I drove past the next week for work, and stopped in, and they relocated the K-rails they had put up to keep the semis out of the gas pumps. Now you could get any RV out of the pump isles.

No charge at any of these? I had no idea!

There is usually a charge at Flying J but ever one I have used has been laid out very well for an RV.
