True msrp

Hello,
Yesterday I was seconds away from purchasing a 267BHSW. At the last minute, after all the BS going back and forth. I realized I was only going to pay 600 less then I would from the dealer 1/2 Hr away from my house. I saved myself driving 4 times to a dealer 4Hrs away. That would have been 16HRS to save 600.00 not worth it. So, I start researching again and realized the MSRP on the trailer I was going to buy was 21,184 which came from the JAYCO price and proposal form. The other dealer, which is closer that I want to buy from (even though 600.00 more), has a MSRP of 23335. The 23335 is a price that was on their trailer and also written in by the salesman. So, my question is whats up? Is the MSRP the same throughout the country? Do some dealers make up their own MSRP making it seem like Im getting a better deal? Is this one of their money making schemes? Guess Im going to have to as for the proposal form.

Ask to see the MSRP sheet that came with the trailer. You may find a couple optional items that are different. There may even been some factory changes that caused the price difference.

Nationwide, MSRP is exactly that: Manufacturers SUGGESTED Retail Price. It has no bearing on what the dealership paid for the unit and is only a rough guide on what the dealership should charge.

Msrp

Another variable, in my limited experience, is destination charge. E.G. - my 2016 154BH, Baja Ed., was almost $2K less expensive in Idaho, WHERE THEY BUILD this particular model (the Baja), than several East Coast states. They do, after all, have to get the RV from its build site to wherever being sold, and transportation will sometimes significantly affect the price.

The delivery cost has been detailed on a separate line on the cost sheet called "Destination charge" on every new rig I ever bought.

Norty1 - I stand corrected. Reviewing my sales invoice, I see the separate Destination Charge, so what I offered in my previous post - never mind.

No problem. As stated the MSRP is a recommended price. Has no relation to the cost to the dealer but we all know they have 20-25% or more to deal if they want to. In addition they can sell you all kinds of profit makers along with the unit like stain repellent and "coatings", plus the always present - Dealer Prep.

Jayco price (on their web site) less 30% plus shipping is what you should expect to pay.

Or more. Have gotten 37% and 35% off towable rigs before, but those were on ordered units. I have better luck ordering. They don't have to let them sit on the lot hoping for a buyer, thus they let it go for a lot more off msrp.

Much also depends on dealer volume. The high vo!ume dealers also buy with lower pricing.

I'm also thinking it depends on where in the country your purchasing.

Pick your model and choose most options, work your price reduction of 25-30% off, then when the stone is dry talk about the options you think you should remove and expect full msrp reduction from your original quote....this process can save you additional $$.

Another possibility for a price difference besides maybe a couple more options is one could be an early build, and the other built later after there was a price increase.

Same happens with vehicles. Price increases can and do happen during the model year.

Good luck shopping!!!

33 Percent Discount Offered on a 2017 Seneca

Just thought I would share my experience, as I was also very confused about MSRP.

After reading several books I realized the price between what the dealer pays and what I would pay can be very significant. My situation deals with a 2017 Seneca 37FS which has a listed MSRP of $239,455 with the options I want.
theRVExpress gave me a quote of $162,469.00 in July and RvOne just gave me a quote of $159,830. Quite a difference! Please note that the higher the price of the RV, the larger the dealer profit margin. When we get ready to order next month, you can bet that I will try to work the price down even more. So I'm not sure what your case would be but I would recc. getting a quote from theRVExpress and RvOne. I'll bet you will be pleasantly surprised.

Good luck!

I just bought a 2017 Jayco Greyhawk 29MV at 37% off MSRP out the door. It is defintely doable. Don't settle. I started dealing with Camping World They would not come even close to this, more like 15% was all they would do. So I said see ya. Found Colerain in OH that did 37% pulled the trigger and could not be happier. They did a great job. Made the sale very smooth and easy. Highly recommend Amy DeCamp there.

Not true. Jayco only has one tier of pricing. All dealers pay the same price from the factory. Once in a while you could get a deal on something another dealer failed to pick up, but even those discounts weren't huge.

True MSRP

I am actually signing papers tomorrow to buy a 2017 SLX 267bhsw. I initially was told a price of 19,500 on this unit. I told the dealer no and asked them for there best price. We settled at $16,195. This price includes TV and Propane Cover. The dealer states this price includes 'Special Rebates' and he no longer has them available. Not sure if this is true or not, but I do know I am getting this unit for a great price.
