Upgrade tires from D to E

My current TT is setup with tires and wheels with a D rating. I was wanting to purchase a set of Goodyear Endurance tires, 225/75/15, but that size only comes in an E rating now. The E rated GY tire has an inflation psi of 80 while my D rated tires are inflated to 65. I know I will need new E rated wheels. The new setup would have stiffer tires and a higher inflation pressure. I'm concerned that with an E rated setup that the ride might be too jarring on my TT. The weight of my trailer won't be matched to the stiffness of the higher rated tires with 80psi in them.

I would not worry about that.

Just make sure your rims are rated for 80 psi and verify the dimensions of the new tire will have clearance.

Research your wheels, I just switched mine from D range to GY endurance load range E and my wheels were fine. You will have a much better safety margin with the E rated tires. The D rated tires were probably maxed out.

I cannot imagine the wheels not able to handle 80psi. As for the rough ride, I agree it's not an issue, and that the added safety margin for the E rated tires is quite desirable.

I think you are giving the RV industry WAY, WAY too much credit here. They just put on the cheapest tire that has sufficient load capacity to reach the GVWR.

Switching to E will be fine.

I upgraded from D to Maxxis E without any issues. Made the swap with less than 500 miles on them just for the peace of mind...

In June I went from Rainer 225/75/15 load range D to Goodyear Endurance 225/75/15 load range E tires. I had not problems with the Jayco factory rims handling the 80 psi. It is pretty obvious the sidewalls on the GY Endurance are much heavier. I've only towed about 100 miles so far and did notice a little difference in handling, such a little more bounce in the trailer. I'd rather have a little stiffer ride than a blowout with thousands of dollars in damages.

I switched from D rated to E rated on my 5th wheel and only ran 65# with no problems. My truck had e rated tires and recommended 65# in the front tires so I figured even though the tire was rated for 80# 65# would not be a problem with them. E rated solved a lot of problems we were having with blow outs.
