Voltage loss - think I figured it out
I just came back from a 5 week trip. I put in two new group 24 batteries just before leaving.
Throughout the five weeks I was getting a voltage loss. Inside the trailer my voltmeter, at times (but not all the time) would register up to a full volt loss. What this means is that at my batteries the voltage was 12.5, but inside it would read 11.5. That is not fun when you boondock.
I checked all my connections and fuses many times and it all looked good. It was driving me crazy.
After unloading yesterday I took my trailer to its storage spot and pulled the fuse that is hanging right by the battery. That is my sophisticated way to disconnect the battery. Anyway, the fuse was intact but badly corroded. When I looked in the rubber housing it was easy to see that the connection was burned. So even though the fuse was technically working, I figure that that was the root cause of my voltage loss. It was also the one fuse that I neglected to inspect during my travels!
I will replace the housing and hope to get good results. Thought this story might someone someday.
Cheers.
