Walking on roof to sweep slide-out

Hi,
I have a 27BHS with the OK to walk on, strength wise, roof. I had planned on sweeping the roof of the slide-out from the TT roof before stowing. Am I going to be putting undo wear and tear on the rubber roof membrane by doing that? I don't want to cause a premature membrane failure.

No, sweeping is fine. You need to get any loose stuff off there before sliding it back in.

The trailer roof itself is more than durable enough for you to walk on.

Just don't fall off! [emoji3]

Just be careful. Don't drag your feet or drop tools or anything.

Be careful is the word! When wet, it can be slippery.

Are you planning on doing this every time you close up the trailer? I'd be more worried about falling off the roof then anything. Is the increased risk to yourself worth it to avoid cleaning the slide out via another means?

What other means would you suggest? Even if I had a 7' step ladder I would be very near, if not, at the top rung to get my eyes and hands in position to sweep the top. That seems somewhat dangerous too as dirt campsites are not level. If I build a push broom with a large L shaped handle I can't see if the roof has been totally swept of the debris for pulling in. A topper would help but it only takes a small wind to blow something up there. All seem to have their perils. Please, I'm not trying to be a SA I'm just looking for a method that is right for me. My previous TT did not have a slide. This is one of the reasons I didn't have a slide before.

I have Awnings that go out over my slide outs just for that reason. Here is info on them.
Slideout Cover - Carefree of Colorado

I have been in a lot of places where as I close the slide out a bunch of debris falls off as it closes. And whole lot better than going up and sweeping.

I've been on my roof three times (once each season to clean) and it's very sturdy. If your going to wear shoes up there, I'd check the soles for rocks beforehand. As others have said just be careful, it's a long ways down...

I have seen campers standing on a step ladder with a small hand held blower. Seemed to work.

Or I could ask the DW if I could buy a drone and blow it off that way. I'm sure we all know how that conversation would go.

Actually, that might not be a bad idea. I've seen videos of people using drones to blow leaves. Also, you use the camera to check the slide roof to check for debris.

Just keep in mind drones are banned in certain places, such as National Parks.

I have no problem with going up as long as I'm not doing any damage! I do much more dangerous things for less benefit!

I use a a Xtend Ladder and a blower. I carry a Unger extension pole with a brush and squeegee head. The Pole and brush used to wash with as well. I have been able to clear my slide each time in under 12 mins including setup and clean up.

I use a cordless Worx 20V leaf blower. It won't scrape the membrane with debris. This can be done from a small ladder so you don't have to go up on the roof.

Me and the Pod do it the same way! The ladder works great.

I do not like walking on the roof!

I have a walkable roof but I choose not to go up there as I am kinda clumsy.

I have a rechargeable Riobi leaf blower that I use to clear off the slide-out roof and awning before stowing. The leaf blower battery also fits power drill to raise and lower stabilizing jacks as well as a small chain saw for cutting campfire wood.

I used to climb on the roof to do that as well. Then I decided a small step ladder and a B&D Rechargeable Leaf blower would do the trick. Works perfect.

Funny you should say that. I have a Phantom 3 Advanced drone I use on a regular basis with a 2.7K camera that I use as a hobby...as well as checking my gutters! LOL. They definitely have the prop wash to blow the roof off.

Last year during an early season trip -- the very first trip with our new trailer, as it happens -- a snowstorm came through. 60 mph wind off the lake and 6 ft waves, accompanied by ice and snow. People were leaving the campground in droves, and we decided to stay put. I wasn't going to tow the trailer in that wind. It was over by the next day when we were packing up to leave, but I still had to go on the roof to sweep the snow off of the slide before retracting it. I was more concerned about slipping and falling off the roof more than anything.
