Wall outlet usb
Hello my friends. I went to replace the wall outlet next to the bed to one with usb so I could charge my phone and fan and what not. The only usb outlet i have is in the kitchen and is too far to keep gettin up while it's charging. Anyhow apparently these outlet are different then home outlets. First off it looks riveted into the wall??? How would I remove without damage. 2nd I don't think my outlet I bought will work. I believe they are special outlet bc the don't have a box inside the wall to mount to. I guess I'll be returning to Amazon. I don't think it's going to work. I've looked for wall out with usb for rv and couldn't find any. Anyone with some knowledge or experience on this can shed some light. Thanks.

They use RV/MH outlets which normally don't require a box. The wires are locked in and covered with the back cover plate. Did you.try loosening the 2 visible screws? They are the locking fingers.

Actually I just checked. Those top holes arent rivets. They are just holes. Lol
I still don't think this outlet will work. I haven't tried removing. Was checking with you guys first. I would have a little room to screw through the two top and bottom holes into the wall, but I don't think that would hold up to pulling plugs out without a more solid mount.

I used one I bought at Lowe's. I was able to just sink the mounting screws for the outlet into the plywood surrounding the opening to hold the socket in place. I did use different screws than what came with the outlet so that they would bite into wood since the ones that come with it are normally machine screws.

Depending how thick the wall is some plastic boxes will work. They give the ears for 4 screws.

Does the outlet feel sturdy? When you pull a plug out inwould imagine alot of tension on the wall would end up stripping the screws out

It's solid. It's also NOT one of those child protective outlets that are tough to push a plug into. I'll take a pic or two tomorrow and post it in this thread so you can see what I have.

You can get one of these at most big box stores. Plugs into an existing outlet and adds USB. It's my temp fix until I get around to adding 12 Volt USB outlets. By temp I mean it has been in use for almost 3 seasons now... Lol...

I saw some at Walmart that had 2 outlets & 6 usb's. I have several of the 2 outlets/2usb.

I just pulled 12v wires from a light and added a USB outlet. That way it works while on shore power or off grid.

No need to change the outlet. They make an adaptor with a USB on one end and a 3-prong 120 V connector on the other. I use one in my Jayco right next to the bed.
Want me to google it for you?

That's my plan. I have 12 volts within 2 feet of where I want the USB. Sadly, I just haven't done it yet...

Same here. I bought the materials a year ago. I finally installed it last month. It was much easier than I thought.
