Water filter in or out between trips

For those of you who have the in-line Pur-flo water filter canister and/or a residential fridge, do you remove the filter cartridge between trips and shake the water out so water in the cartridge doesn’t get foul odors? At the end of last season, our fresh water got a foul odor and it was primarily coming through the residential fridge water and ice maker. I’m giving the plumping a good sanitizing while de-winterizing and I have new filters to start the season. I hope this eliminates the foul odor. We only camp about 5 to 10 days a month from May to October so there is a lot of time just sitting in storage and I’m wondering if that can be part of the problem with water sitting in the filters.

What do you folks do?

I blow out my lines after each trip. Haven’t had any issues.

I take them out and let them dry in the kitchen sink.
