Water filters and pressure regulators...

With either a built in or inline water filter, is a pressure regulator still a good idea to use or do the filtration systems tend to reduce the pressure enough to protect the faucets and such?

I still use a pressure regulator. Cost and set up are minimal and one less thing that can go wrong.

Filters do not reduce the pressure at all. They only reduce the volume (flow rate). You definitely should use a pressure regulator.

It not only protects the camper, but also your water hose. I have seen many a hose "spring a leak" when out in the sun due to high water pressure.

First off if your filter is clogged up you not only will see a flow drop but as soon as you turn on a faucet- shower etc.. your pressure will drop off. The pressure will only stay the same if there is no outlet on....
Second, usually people mount the pressure regulator at the trailer water entry point. That won't save the hose unless you mount the pressure regulator at the supply faucet.

We have found out West that many campgrounds required (request) pressure regulators because their pressures were so HIGH..

Grumpy, I have that hose you are talking of. House water pressure can surge to 110psi on our local City water. I ran an additional hose from a seperate source while staying in our driveway while repairing our house. I did not put the regulator on the spigot, but after the first hose. I have now ruined that hose. It's about 2x the orginal diameter and leaking in it's layers..

I also noticed while testing the home water system we are fixing, that the pressure gauge on my regulator is off quite a bit. It is generally correct, but off about 10 pounds from a better pressure gauge we were testing with.
