Water Heater anode rod

I am a 2nd Camper owner and my first one didnt have one. I have a new Jayco 27RL. Anyway I have seen alot of talk about replacing the hot water rod thing. What's the best way to figure out which one you have ? Is there a number on it ?

If you are referring to an anode rod, and your water heater has a nylon drain plug, you don't need one. Atwood water heaters use an aluminum tank. The Suburban units have a steel tank, and should use one.

I keep a spare and check it a couple of times a year and replace it when it it is 75% gone.

I took out the plastic plug and put in this water heater kit: $90 from Amazon Camco hot water hybrid heat kit 11673.

Really heats up the water nicely, comes with lighted switch. I unplug it for safety until I fill the hot water heater. Took some time to wire it up but not hard to take out for draining.

To my knowledge any brand RV anode rod will work.

Two basic styles. OEM solid rod, and one with an integrated drain plug. Pick out what you like and order, If it says it is for an RV it should all work.

I do not need one, but my buddy does. I order him a few every couple years as I can get them at a better price online than he can locally (he refuses to order online). I don't think I have ever bought the same one for him twice.
