I put a piece of electrical tape over the top of the connection just for good measure.

Are you talking about the connection to shore power from the TT to campground pedestal, most I have used have a cover that opens and seems to keep the water out.

Mine has a Marinco twist/lock connector. Never had any problems with it.

Like Norty1, I have the Marinco twist lock connector for my shore power cord and the trailer. Also, like him, I've had no water problems yet.

WRT where the shore power card plugs into the power pedestal, I plan to start using a heavy duty large trash bag over the pedestal in order to keep the connections dry.

In the parks that I have seen always had a cover over the plug/breaker box. My home plug in has a outdoor cover on it also to meet electrical codes. Our Jayco has the non-detachable cord. Our old Rockwood had a detachable cord. Never had a problem with either style getting wet. I always covered up the plugs if I had to use a extension cord.

I've only stayed in one RV park that did not have a box with a cover that shielded the connection. We weren't there in the rain so I just plugged in.

At the trailer the cover for the connector serves to keep most of the water off of the connector. My twist lock also has a threaded collar that also serves as kind of a seal to keep water and debris out.

My problem is I have a portable Progressive Industries EMT 30A which causes the shore power cord to connect in the weather, let alone the PI EMT. This is why I need to cover the pedestal with a heavy duty trash bag, or something similar.

If you want a truly waterproof connection you can go with industrial connector like these Cruise-Hinds type shown in the photos. I put a receptacle underneath with a cover for power input. This keeps mice and bugs out. Then my extension cord also has these connectors. These are 30 amp, the next size is 60 amp. If you do spend the money for something like this make sure you get what is called “reverse service” so you don’t have hot prongs exposed. Hubbell also makes a cheaper plastic version of this connector. You could probably find them on eBay much cheaper than new. But make sure you know what you are buying - maybe get an electrician friend to help get the right thing. You’ll see these used for generator hookups. There are many extras available too such as elbows and boxes. Plus people are less likely to steel your power cord since they can’t use it on their rv.

Don't have a picture, but if I am using the extension cord, the connection is often on the ground. I bought a small plastic Rubbermaid tub and cut a small u out of each side. I pop the connection inside the box, snap the lid down over the cord, and that keeps that connection high and dry.

Haven't really worried about the pedestal yet as it usually has a cover on it at the parks we frequent.
