Water pump operation

I have a Jay Feather Sport 165, whose owner manual says to only turn water pump on when using the sink or commode. However, I find this a bit inconvenient, having to remember to hit the button each time I want to use one of the above amenities.

Can't see what harm it would do to leave the button in the On position.

I'm curious if other members here always shut off the pump when not in use?

Thanks
Ray

When we are boondocking we usually turn it on in the morning and off at night. Of course you don't need it when hooked up to campsite water.

I have no idea what the setup is in your rig but in mine I have the Shurflo water pump and I leave it on when I am not hooked to a city water/well water source. If you have a Shurflo system, you can probably leave it on all the time. I like to do that occasionally even when hooked to a water source due to the fact that if you do not have a water valve open and the pump is running, you probably have a water leak somewhere.

On my previous unit I had to install an accumulator tank to prevent "hammering" when I turned on a faucet but I haven't installed it on this unit. The pump runs constantly when a water valve is open but there is no real harm in that either. I also had to install an isolation kit on the other unit but this one is 10 times quieter than the other system.

I leave mine on also. After pressurizing the system the pump stops running. It would be a good idea to turn it off though when leaving the trailer in case of a leak.

Ours has been on every time we are not hooked to a water supply. It is designed to be on.

Maybe I misunderstood the owner's manual, because it says to put button in the Off position when not using the water pump. I'd be curious to know if your manual (and others here) says the same thing? After all, except for certain features, many Jayco rigs share the same owner manuals.

I think they mean when you are not using your water tank and pump and are hooked up to the camp ground water source with a hose ( to the city water inlet on your trailer) you do not turn on the water pump as it would run dry and serve no purpose. If that is not the case then you must have a different system then I am familiar with. Does the water pump cycle off and stay off when the system pressurizes after you are done using it?

Lee, yes the system pressurizes then stays off when I'm not using the system. I think I simply misinterpreted what they meany by put the pump in the Off position when not using it. I figured they meant when finished using the sink or the commode or whatever. Your comment makes sense. Thanks.

I do that and I also turn off my HWT. If I'm on city water, I turn it off too.

We never turn anything off unless we will be gone a day or more.
