Water Ripped my Awning

So we had a freak storm in NYC a day ago and I accidentally left my awning out while we were away. It ripped my awning fabric about 4-5 feet from the rear of the trailer towards the center. I have a dometic 18' awning in sandstone. It ripped right at the trailer wall (the stitching ripped first, then it tore just about 1" away from the stitching for the remainder (about 4.5ft).

So...not sure what to do, order replacement fabric, or?

Has anyone replaced the fabric on their awning? It is a power awning.

Replacement is not that hard if your handy. It is a 2 to 3 person job. Not sure if your awning has to be removed from the RV, but when I helped my cousin we removed the awning and it was simple, took about 3hrs.

Google "replacing electric rv awning fabric", and you'll find videos on exactly how it's done. Not difficult at all, but there's a sequence to follow, that makes it the easiest.

If other than the rip, your awning is in good shape you might consider taking it to a sail maker for a simple repair. Beats the price of a new one and they’ll check all the seams and it will be good as new.

Thanks for the input.

The rip was about 5 feet long (18ft awning) and it happened right on the stitching along the RV wall/roof.

I took some fishing line, doubled it up through a needle and stitched it back together.

I'm going to buy some awning repair tape to seal over the stitching, just on the top side where you'll never see it. From the underside, you can't really tell that the awning ripped. It took me a few hours to stitch it by hand, but I'm happy with how it turned out.

Reminds me of time we had a heavy rain over night and I didn't take down the awning...

I also didn't have it tilted right either. When we got up the next morning could not open the one and only trailer door haha...

I finally got the door opened enough to use a broom handle to push up the awning some to drain off some water... Took awhile but I finally got enough drained out to get outside haha... Thankfully I didn't do any damage to the awning either...

Now I have a pretty good drooping on one side haha... Learn the hard way haha...

Ours has 2 doors, but the awning only covers one of them. Now I can tell my DW that only covering one is a safety design feature.

Actually that was kinda scary haha... "We're going to die in here" haha...

Thankfully with a POPUP I reckon I could run thru any of the walls haha... I have heard of small children falling out of the tent bed ends to the ground haha... That hasn't happened to us yet but have seen a flashlight or my CC CRANE FM radio go rolling out...

I couldn't believe all the water that was being held by the awning... Mucho gallons haha...
