Water Sanitation question

I have a 2017 Jayco Eagle 5th wheel. I am sanitizing the water system that requires me to fill and drain the fresh water tank a couple of times. However, it takes hours to drain the fresh water tank using the drain valve. Is there a quicker way to do this?

I do a couple things. First, I do a couple simple tank flushes, I may only add 5 gallons of water. I hope this gets out most of the bleach and crude out of the tank, or at least dilute it. I will then flush again with maybe 5-10 gallons of water. Usually then I fill the tank full, to rinse off the walls and top. I do the same thing with my water heater, add some water and drain it, repeat a few times.

If I feel the need to speed up the draining process, I open the low point drain(s) both on the FW tank and for the plumbing system, and turn on my pump to help move the water. Instead you can open the pressure relieve valve on the water heater.

All the clean water dumps on the ground, and into my yard.

X2... That's what I do too. Open up both low point drains and let the pump, pump it out. Plus, my driveway gets sanitized at the same time!!

I added a larger 1/2 brass ball valve. Cut the time by 2/3.

What are you using for a sanitizer, or tank and lines have developed a awful smell after the past winter

Was this a difficult process?

You can use bleach or your RV store carries a gallon jug of prepared sanitizer.

Did you drain your hot water tank before storage? That's the most likely culprit of bad water smell. Leaving water in the hot tank can develop bacteria. We learned we have to drain the hot water tank after every trip. I typically do it as part of breaking down camp.

The only way to get rid of it is to drain the how water tank and let it fill up as part of the sanitizing process.

Yes tank was drain in the fall before storage and I leave the plug out of it so that it airs out.

Had the same issue with our coach after the PDI. The water at the dealer has a horrible smell. I sanitized the system using 1/4 cup. of bleach to 1 gallon of water for every 15 gallons of tank capacity. If you have a 45 gallon fresh water tank you will need 3 gallons of the. solution.

After sanitizing no more nasty water smell.

FWIW some water systems in the south have a large sulfur content in their water and I will sanitize the fresh water system after every trip to one of those areas. Some areas of Florida are real bad with the sulfur.

I could loan you two of my grand sons, they managed to drain our full tank of fresh water in just two days while on the road from Texas to North Carolina.

How do you get the sanitizing solution into the fresh water tank?

I've seen different videos where they say to bypass the hot water tank when sanitizing, and others where they also sanitize the hot water tank. We had the bad smell when hot water was run so I sanitized it too. Are we not supposed to sanitize the hot water tank? We don't have the rod, we have the other type of hot water heater.
