Water Tank Fill On 'Wrong' Side
Our water tank fill is on the opposite side as the gray/black tank hookups, which is different than our previous trailer and different then what it seems is 'standard'. I think it's because of where the pump is placed.
I'm curious how others who have had this configuration have dealt with filling up. Just about every dump/water fill station I've seen assumes everything is on the same side.
I see a few different options.
1. Hope that I'll be able to pull in so that there's a water hookup where I need it. Might work, but if there's a longer line on one side or only one set of outlets, this could be a problem.
2. Take a hose. Might work, but some provided hose lines might not have a threaded end to attach a hose.
3. Pull in the wrong way. Probably not an option. Many campgrounds won't let you or if they do, you'll definitely catch the ire of fellow campers.
Just curious what others with this experience have done. We bought the camper late in the season so we never had to actually deal with it.

My fresh water fill is also "curbside". I always carry 10 gal on board. If I need fresh water, I use my "campground-hook up" hose to fill the tank. Many dump stations don't have "potable" water, and if they did, I would likely look for another fresh water source - a lot of sewer hoses get rinsed at dump station water faucets......yuk. if you're dry camping, you should plan on filling before arriving.

I use our normal city water hose. It is long thanks to the rear water port on our trailer. I just pass it under the trailer and fill the tank. But we never dry camp so I just put in about 5 gallons or so...

Do you mean the city water connection is on the curb side?
I would carry two hoses, maybe three if that were the case. The water spigot is almost always by the post.
Ours has the fresh water tank on the passenger side but the city connection on the rear. Never really had an issue except at one state park the connection is hard to get to with just one hose but it's been done.

Our fresh water fill is on the 'curb side'; the opposite of the black tank flush and city water connections. To fill the fresh water, I just run a white hose from our filters, under the trailer, and fill.
I've thought about installing a plastic pipe or ?? from one side to the other to make the job a bit easier, but haven't made any decisions on what to do (if anything).

Just a note, at many dump stations the water is noted as Non Potable. I would never use the hose that people use to rinse their dump hose to fill my RV. My fill is also on the passenger side. Not really an issue, if I have water on the drivers side I connect to that water. If I need to fill my tank due to no water, I would try and position myself with the water spigot on the correct side. I would not fill from a dump station and especially never from a hose without a threaded connection, that is an indicator to not connect to your tank, but to use it as a rinse only.
Water should always be noted as potable or non potable unless your in a camp site.
Good Luck...what you have is not unusual previous RV's i've had were the same way.

I always carry a 10, 15, and 25 foot white hoses for potable water. If I can not reach a water source with them then I need to find a different camp site or CG.

My FWT fill is also on the curb side of the trailer. I thought it was weird at first, but I got use to it. At least at Michigan State Parks (I'm most familiar with them) they have one hose for flushing/washing down, and another hose for filling your fresh water tank(s). They are both on the driver's side, but the potable water post is about 10-15 feet away from the dump/rinse station (presumably to minimize the chances of cross-contamination; they also have back-flow preventers on them.) I carry three different lengths of white hose, since you never know what length you'll need). I just hook one up and toss it underneath the truck/trailer to the passenger side. If the threaded end has been cut off (or if someone else is using the fill hose), there's usually a separate sill cock located at the bottom of the fill post, used for seasonal draining of the system. You can generally hook up to that.
My black tank flush receptacle is also on the driver's side, but clear to the back end of the trailer. The hose at the dump station never reaches, so I also carry a length of garden hose for that.

We are always careful where we take in fresh water. Most dump stations are not allowed by health laws to mark water faucets as potable if they are located within a certain number of feet of a dump station.
This is just a health precaution in many instances, the water is the same supply as drinkable water.
I would never use it for filling a fresh tank even if was not intended for consumption.

I was unfamiliar with this setup until I bought the JFeather 23RL last spring. After flushing fresh reservoir and while filling, parked at home prior to first outing, that I discovered some pretty major deficiencies. First, the water pump was LOUD. Second, nearing fill, water started pouring out of belly pan behind the curbside rear wheel. The reservoir fill is on curbside over front wheel. Found I had only three lights on monitor, nothing out overflow, so I turned up hose water pressure hoping I didn't have a defective tank. Some minutes later, water began 'burping' out of fill port, but not overflow. Removed the power converter from the cabinet to take a look. Clear hose was running water in a loop up from the floor, and back down through the floor. No 'overflow' attached to fill port. After turning off water and letting things stabilize, was able to pull the hose out of the floor and guess what...it just reached the fill port, all I needed was a clamp. Restarted fill and in short order I had water spurting out of overflow port, as it should be. And nothing out of undercarriage... Water pump got noisier and will be discussed elsewhere. City water and black flush are on street side, with black and grey drain valves.

I'm guessing by the replies, it depends on the model, my 2016 28RLS has my dumps and my city water on the curbside, on the city side is my black tank flush and my water tank fills.
I carry two 25 ft and one 15 ft drinking water hose and one 50 ft regular waterline for campsite use and black water flush.

Thanks
Thanks for the responses.
We camp at Michigan State Parks primarily, and as one of the posters above noted, they have both potable and non-potable water lines at the areas, clearly marked (potable is green and non-potable is red) and, now that I think about it, located apart from one another. It seems like the answer is to take a hose along. Lucky we have a bigger storage area than in the previous trailer.
Thanks!

My last camper had the city water hook up on the driver side and everything else on the passenger side. I hated that arrangement and made sure when I bought my new camper the fresh water hookup was on the passenger side with all the other hookups. It was a pain in the !!!! running a hose under the camper every time you setup so you could have water. It would have been easy when they built the camper to run a water line to the passenger side for a tank located on the driver side. Jayco should spend a little time thinking about the owner and that he would hooking up that pain in the !!!! water line for years. It's only eight feet of pipe and a lifetime of pain for the owner. Just my 2 cents.

OK...I'm a newbie here...but this discussion has me scratching my head. In all the years I used to rent Class A's, the tank drains were on the driver's side. Fresh water fill could be anywhere as well as city water port.
It surprises me that that isn't always the case. I LIKE having my fresh water tank fill on the passenger (curb) side. It's completely separate from everything else. I like having the city water port on the drivers side with the rest. Easier hook up.
I carry 2 25' fresh water hoses and 1 10ft fresh water hose.
My black water flushing hose is green and 25'. Both sets of hoses are carried on the same side as they are used.....but if I choose to hook up to city water...I carry the white hose over and connect it up. I like keeping my drinking system far away from my waste system.
In fact, our 2nd trip out...at Lost Dutchman State Park...the utilities were all on the wrong side from my perspective. Curbside. So electric and city water runs were under the trailer to the other side. First time I've seen that...but then I haven't been all around the country like many of you have....yet!

it may be because of the floor plan.something for us to consider next time we upgrade.

I'm going to have to pay closer attention, I've never seen an RV with the "dump" valves on the passenger or curb or right side of the RV. I've been in campgrounds that couldn't accommodate dump valves curbside. Everything else........well. My city water hookup is roadside / center, electric is rear, and fresh water fill is curbside.

Wow.. did I mess that up, Take my comment.. reverse it, I wasn't thinking curbside... My dumps and city water are on the drivers side, my black tank flush and water tank fill on the passenger side.

if they routed a line for filling to the other side I can see problems there.I would suspect that the filler would be higher than the tank. That being the case...the route would be under the unit.In the floor maybe but i dont think that is possible.to go under the floor and back up to the top of the tank.I guess you could fill from the bottom of the tank but then you are getting back pressure to the filler port.I think as long as the port is higher than the tank it would ok.I still think its all about floor plan.hence the placement of the tank.any trailer or camper I have had...the dumps and fills are always on the drivers side

Water Tank fill port is on the Passenger side in the middle.
City water fill port and black tank flush on the back/rear.
Grey and Black tank flush on drivers side in the back behind the wheels.

I have seen sites that could be used by MH's or trailers. Often the MH's would just pull into the site where the fifth wheel or trailer may choose to back in.
In this case someone would have to have the utilities on the wrong side. I guess you just have to be prepared for what comes your way.
