Water Totes - Black & Gray?

For those that use water totes, do you use it for both gray and black? We just bought a 35 gallon Thetford.

Yes, I use it for both when staying at state parks without sewer connections for extended periods. It sure beats hooking back up to TV and going to dump station then back to campsite to set-up again.

Not me, I'd haul the trailer to the dump station before I'd use a tote tank for black water. I can go well over a week between black tank dumps.

Wait till you get to clean the tote tank after using it for black. Moving the trailer is easier and more pleasant.

Just sayin.......Mr.T

Tote useage

We use our Thetford tote for all 3 tanks- We empty in the same order we dump at the station- Black first, kitchen second and shower last- This way we have 2 opportunities to flush the tote- We also add a gallon of windshield washer fluid to the tote after each use to sanitize it - Seems to work for us- JMHO- DD

I dump as does Diesel Donnie. If I had to hook up and tow my 5'er to the dump every couple of weeks, I would just stay at my home base. As it is, I am at a state park for the next 4 months as a host. I will be using my tote as I did last year and all works well. I do add a black tank tablet to it between uses when the weather gets hot.

I've used mine for grey only but I usually camp for 4-5 days at a time and I've never had occasion to fill the black. In fact, I often will take used dishwater and put it down the black vs. grey to conserve space int he grey tank. It also seems to help keep the black tank cleaner. Read that tip on RV.net a long time ago.

cm11599ps-- We use it for both, just be aware that 35 gals is very heavy when draging to your tv for the trip to tne dump station. Also be aware that you may have to dig a hole for the tote due to the tt drain being very low.You can raise the tv with blocks but then you will have to add a second step to get in the tt. Just ask me I have been through it even after raising my 19H 2 inches. You might want to return the 35 gal tote ( if unused) and get a smaller one. I didn't figure thing's out until I was setting up at the cg for the first time & then I was too late. Just my $.02 Larry

I have used mine for black a couple of times. Yep - it is smelly but it aint that bad compared to packing up everything and dragging the trailer to the dumpstation. I did about 1/2 full of black then topped with some gray, then went back and did the rest of the gray. Rinsed out with a hose and good as new.

I know folks are scared of the Black, but if you are careful and take your time you will be just fine....and if not - that is what soap is for

I love that idea! Also, can you transfer some from grey water tank into the black water tank?
