What do you do in the rain

We are about to leave for our ten-day family vacation and generally we don't let the weather dictate what we do however looking at the long-term forecast they are calling for rain on at least eight of those days 2 one inch plus days. We are headed to Myrtle Beach 2 Day drive there and two days drive back six days there any suggestions?

We use rainy days to visit indoor attractions in the area or to take drives through scenic areas. You can always play games or read a book.

Rain putting a damper on things

Only input I have as I have found there is not much you can do, rain, especially heavy rain is a force to reckon with;

a dehumidifier as opposed to straight A/C when parked, the front desk staff can help assign you a camp site not prone to flood but you have to ask, shortens time between laundry days. We do not travel with the kids they have all grown so I do not have any insight in that area.

My two cents...

Nothing better than taking a nap on a rainy day. My kids don't allow it, but one can dream.

We have a new to us 2010 M-1007 pop-up. We bring board games, dominoes, cards and books. Our maiden voyage to try out the camper was a two-day stay at a local state park on Lake Michigan (SW Michigan). It rained most of the time and we still went to the beach. The kids 'enjoyed' the 50° water and 60° air.

That campground was only 13 miles away but we are heading out soon for a 10 day trip as well. The 900 mile drive will be much more involved so the kids will probably watch movies part of the time on the DVD system in the minivan.

We watch DVD's - Play games - or venture out to find something indoors to do. We don't let weather get us down...

My kids have been camping there hole life so we have had a lot of rainy days. They are now 15 and 19 but we all still have a blast just playing in the rain. We will play tag, badminton ladder ball all the same games we play on sunny days but for some reason while on vacation it just seems more fun in the rain.. in other words we don't let the rain get us down at all...

Usually rain in MB is a shower and blows away in a couple of hours.

Don't worry, there are many places that you can stay dry and spend your $$$$.

We often just sit under the awning if the wind isn't blowing too hard. Read books or magazines, watch what others are doing around us, nibble on cheese and crackers. If other campers are away, we keep an eye on their awnings, etc, and keep them from being damaged or blown away.

What do you do in the rain

I take a 12' x 12' pop up canopy that's always up. When staked down I've never had winds high enough to cause concern. We hangout under it and play games, read or just talk. Most times the awning is out as well providing additional space to hangout. We have visited local sites on occasion as well.

It really depends on the amount of rain and the temperatures. Many times we have continued to do what ever we had planned. We have found if we are out on the boardwalks, there is very few people, and the stores are less crowded. Been known to bring an umbrella and enjoy the sites, scenes, and even gone fishing.

If it is cold and down poring, its a good time for a book, or a museum, or even maybe that nap I heard mentioned.

When we tented and had the pop-up, it was playing board games and card games. If it wasn't a torrential down pour we'd sit by the fire with umbrellas. If was raining too hard we'd find local tourist attractions, especially historical sites.

More recently since we don't have kids to entertain anymore we sit inside and watch DVDs. Something I don't even get to do at home too often.

We have a 15*15 Coleman Dome that provides a ton of outdoor space. We hang at the picnic table doing crafts, games, puzzles, reading, etc. Hard to tell, but the photo below was taken on a very rainy day. Such a big dome might be hard in a more urban CG where space is at a premium.

For MB specifically, go to Broadway at the Beach or Tanger outlet for shopping. Brookgreen Gardens, The battleship North Carolina, historic Charleston for sights. Most have a bit of outdoor involved, but an umbrella will do.

For me driving in the rain is relaxing so long as it's not a downpour, in the campground I love to hear rain on the awning and the roof of the trailer, thunderstorms are exciting and scary all at once, I love to feel the thunder. I have rain jackets, the quality ones like from Columbia or North Face, and I will spend the day in the rain sightseeing, walking, and being touristy. The one thing I do not enjoy is trying to cook outside in the rain.

I'm not all about rain though, I enjoy the sunny days, kayaking, hiking, and cooking outside, campfires, watching the stars, and boondocking.

I like to see the tire temps go down when driving in rain.

We love the rain, camping or not. If it is not storming, we will sit out under the awning and watch the rain and all the goings on. Lightning is a no no for the wife but I actually love watching that as well. Not camping right now but it is raining at home and we are sitting on the front porch watching the rain. We have lots of entertainment as we have bird feeders in the yard. The hummers are literally going crazy now in the rain and we have 3 of those feeders on our front porch right in front of us. Watching the beautiful panoramic view of nature is just so calming.

I usually sit under the awning and take a nap on rainy days, (depending on how hard it's raining)
