What kind of wild animals have you seen while camping?

My wife and I are looking forward to our camping adventures to start this spring. We will be traveling to various places throughout the country. I'm curious. What kind of animals have you seen while traveling/camping? Maybe you have a scary or funny story?

My Mom shared a story of her and my Stepdad camping and while grilling, a bird swooped in and stole a hotdog from their grill!

I've seen more Fox and Coyote in the last few years in PA than I have in my lifetime. Besides that, the typical PA wildlife.

Probably the most exotic thing that we've seen camping was a gator while in Florida. That's probably not uncommon for the Florida folks but pretty rare for us northern types.

We had four large raccoons - very large - climb up on the back bumper and made a helluva racket at 2am.

I came out, hollered, flashed the light, clapped the hands...

They stopped and turned to look at me.
Then they looked at one another as if to say "He's pretty small, we could take him..."

And they went right back to trying to open the doors.

You can’t beat Yellowstone NP for extraordinary wildlife in their natural habitat. Bison, elk, pronghorn, wolves and grizzlies are just some. Late spring/early summer are good for seeing the offspring. These were in early June.

In the 70's we stayed in the grand canyon nat park. First night there a gentleman tried to sho away a baby bear with a broom. Mama bear removed one side of the gentleman's face. 10 year olds remember that kind of thing.

This was taken out of our back window this past September in Estes Park, Co. The big guy had a puncture wound above a front leg, most likely from fighting since it was the middle of the rut. He hung around our rv park a couple of weeks recuperating. Not an uncommon sight since it seems there as many elk as people in EP at times.

We will be heading to Yellowstone this summer. Staying at Cody KOA.
Anyone been there?
Then heading to Mt. Rushmore KOA.

One trip we had a wild turkey that decided I was it’s new best friend......followed me everywhere and hung around camp even though we never fed it anything

We also boondock a lot on a river bar and one day these Otters showed up and hung around all day.

Rustynuts, was the turkey at Bullards Beach? We’ve had them come into our campsite there.
