What size wood for leveling?

I have always used 1 x 6, which I cut to length.

The wood is now brittle and I will be replacing. My wife want 2 x 8, so its wider for the tires. I am not so sure, 2 x 8's are much heavier (and of course thicker).

Any thoughts, what do you use?

Thanks

Pressure treated 2x8's for the corners until we bought these:

Lynx Levelers

If you don't want all the heavy wood in your truck, it's a good option.

I still use some cut off pressure treated 8x8 posts for the tongue jack. I don't fully trust the 'legos' to support 1000 lbs, although they probably do fine there too...I just like wood for that application.

I like the "logo" blocks, they're not nearly as cheap but much lighter and they come in that nifty orange color (although some are yellow I guess).

I found some Trex type 5/4x6 composite deck boards at Home Depot in the bargin bin, cut them to 10". They are easy to clean, pretty lightweight, deep ribs on the bottom so they stack well and don't dry out and split like wood.

I cut up 2X10s and 1X8s. Untreated pine isn't heavy. I have a pretty good stack to use for both leveling the tires, and under the jacks.

2x8 and 2x6 treated lumber, cut to about 12". Mine basically came from scraps after I demolished an old deck. I added a few to this year's supply before our first trip of the season, used almost all of them for that outing.

That's a great idea!

I use the Lynx levelers under the tires but use 2x8 redwood (neighbor gave me) under the jacks. Redwood is pretty light and doesn't rot as fast as pine.
