What to buy based on this scenario??

What size model (if there is one) trailer can I buy that weighs less than 4600 lbs and can hold a dirt bike (250cc) on the back of the trailer on a rack?

I need room for 5, 2 adults and a teen and 2 kids. I am assuming a dual axle is the way to go. Does a dual axle make it easier to tow with regards to balance?

Not saying it can't be done, but a trailer that light would not have large enough frame rails to haul that much weight on the rear without doing damage to camper. Also you would remove to much tough weight for it to pull without swaying. That's just my opinion.

Is the 4600 pounds just the trailer, or is that a loaded weight?

You might find a trailer that is comfortable and towable but adding that much weight in the form of bike, bike rack and frame reinforcement would eat up your payload to the point you couldn't carry food, water and clothing for 5.
Instead, how about a pickup and loading the dirt bike there??

You might want to look at Toy Haulers or Toy Haulers with cargo decks.
Im pretty sure any TH will be a dual axle.

It sounds as if you are looking for a TT that you can tow with your existing vehicle. If the 4600 number is your vehicle’s “max tow” figure I don’t expect you will find a TT that matches your needs. The 5 people alone will consume some of the probably already modest payload, adding a trailer to that will probably overload the rear axle. We pulled a hybrid TT with a Ford Expedition (5.4 V8) whose max tow number was 9500#. With just the Bride and myself aboard we were about 200# below the Rear GAWR, add another couple in the back seat and we were overloaded. That TT weighed 5500# loaded (weighed at the CAT Scale).

IMHO, the key takeaway was the TT was a little more than half the “max tow” number.

Correction to the above: our hybrid was about 4400#.

I wonder if you'd have better luck making a stand to sit the bike on the tongue of the trailer, right in front of the cabin. I'd think that'd be a stronger part of the frame and least affect on towing.

I had a trailer before that would be a good option. It was a rockwood pop up with a front deck a single axle could sleep 6 and was very light.

Thanks all. I think at the end of the day the answer is getting a pick up truck and putting my bike there. That seems like the correct, safe, and economical way to go. I really just love my current car {BMW X5} so I was trying to figure out a way to make it work. I just don’t think it’s possible.

A sound observation!

(My opinion and worth what you paid for it!)
