we'll be taking a 2 week trip and heading from North Texas to Montana to see my family. stopping in Denver, catching a Rockies game, then on to Sibley Lake just outside Sheridan WY for a day. headed to Great Falls MT then on to Noxon Reservoir to stay at my brother's cabin for a few days. then headed to Yellowstone for 5 days (staying at Fishing Bridge, everything else was booked). Then headed back home, stopping at Curt Gowdy State Park in Cheyenne WY, Canon City CO to see Royal Gorge, then back to the house.

right around 3000 miles round trip.

Color me jealous!! You will love it!

The DW and I, along with my daughter and SIL and 7 year old grandson, will be heading out for a 2 week trek out west to the Yellowstone, and Grand Tetons. We made reservations to go on one of those chuck wagon dinner trips where the DW and myself will be riding in a wagon coach. The SIL wants to go horseback riding, but get this, they actually have a weight limit of 250lbs. for riders! Needless to say my SIL is on a strict diet to reach that goal!

We're headed to Yellowstone!! My wife and I used to drive a truck, and had to zip past. This will be a "victory tour".

Going to cruise out to Sequoia National Forest for a week, then up to Mammoth area for a 2 weeks, then drive over to Morro Bay (state beach) for a week. Then back home for a couple weeks, to do some work around the house. Then we are heading up to Big Bear for some boondocking. The summer is packed! I just need to figure out what's wrong with my electric brakes before we leave.

Do not miss the Black Hills, in SD. The Mt. Rushmore area is loaded with all kinds of things to see and do. Custer State Park has no hookups, but a nice campground. We stayed at the Custer KOA - reasonably priced and full hookups. (We've stayed at the Hill City KOA, too, but it is HUGE - 1500 sites!!! Custer is smaller and more quiet.)

Go see Custer SP. Drive Iron Mountain Rd and Needles Highway (can't take your trailer there - you'll see why). See Mt Rushmore (hike the President's Trail) in the daytime - then go back for the evening show when they entertain, then light up the mountain. Also visit the Crazy Horse sculpture project.

At Keystone - or Hill City - you can ride a steam train through the mountains from one end to the other, then back (either way). Lots of shops and restaurants, and a museum or two in either town.

If you have kids, you'll want to go to Bear Country - a drive-thru wildlife park. Well worth the money!

And Wind Cave is in the area too - a national park. We took the cave tour. Very interesting and different from the other caves we've been in.

If you have time, Badlands NP is just east on I-90 - about 85 miles. We stayed at the White River KOA. Badlands is worth driving through and hiking around some - a day, anyway. And as you leave, drive north to Wall, SD - for your free glass of ice water! LOL! That's been their hook since the 1800s. Even though it's a tourist trap, it's well worth a visit, just for some great burgers and ice cream. (And you'll buy T-shirts, I'm sure!)

You asked for ideas. here's a few, all less than 100 miles apart.

Thanks Went there 2 years ago and explored all. Stayed at Spokane Creek CG. Didn't do cave but did Crazy Horse and their evening Light Shoe. May hang out somewhere in that area on way back and or head into CO.
