Which propane tank?

Okay, I know this is a stupid question and I know that I could look in the manual or online and figure it out, but this is usually easier.

In the attached pic, which propane tank is being used? Port or starboard?

The one it is pointing to is empty. Switch it to the other side ( left one ) and refill it.

I just figured "port and starboard" would be less confusing than right or left.
Port is port regardless of whether you're looking at it from the front or the back. Plus, I'm retired Navy, so it fits me.

This brings up another stupid question. I'm guessing that window has a color that indicates that the tank is empty. I'm colorblind. What color is it now?

The indicator is red. If the valve on the starboard tank is on, it's empty. If it's closed, turn it on and see if the window turns green.

Thanks. Being red/green colorblind I'll have to get someone else to tell me what color it is, but that will help.

Why can't companies use some other colors besides red and green? Most people who are colorblind are red/green colorblind. You'd think they could do something like white for full and black for empty and make it simple.

I can never tell when electronic devices are charged either.

It’s hard to see but there is an arrow on the black plastic lever indicating which tank is being used. But like stated the right (in pic) tank is selected...

You're absolutely right and I see that now. Now the question is even more stupid.

The only stupid question is the one that isn't being asked.

Nothing stupid about your question although many may laugh at the question its the best way to learn.

I would think that Red and Green is used may be due to traffic signals RED for STOP Green for GO

But the handle does have an arrow pointing to the tank in use and when that tank empties the window will go reed and then the regulator should switch to the other tank at which time you move the handle to point to the tank now in use and the window will go green again

Being you are color blind you may want to change to a auto regulator the has the window on the top It shows gray when a tank is in use and then will switch to red when the tank is empty That way when you look at the window and don/t see gray you will know it switched Unless you have trouble seeing GRAY

The selector handle also has an arrow on it although the handle may be red

'Ah, there's the rub': The arrow points toward a tank, but is the window red (empty) or green (ok) so which tank is being drawn from? If green, the arrow side is being drawn from, if red the non-arrow side. Some of us have to find someone to ask 'Is this red or green?'

IMO, they should have included a symbol - maybe a zero in white on the red background - for those of us that are 'color challenged'.

Wait...... so I know now that the tank on the right is empty. It's still possible that gas is being used from the left tank even though the selector switch is turned to the right tank?

My bad. I should have been clearer:
My regulator is a different design with a rotating knob, not a lever. Mine automatically switches tanks. I don't know about the one in the photo. Sorry for any confusion. I got wrapped up in the color thing.

That *should* be an automatic switching regulator. When you think about it, there's not much point in having the selector and the red/green flags unless it switches automatically. Assuming it is automatic, then:
  1. The red flag means the tank it's pointing at is empty, and
  2. It also means (normally) that the opposite tank is now providing LP gas.
