White hose sanitation

Went to same CG as last year water was fine. This year tasted like a hose. Used city water connection. Anybody sanitize the hose ? How? Thinking 1/2 cup bleach, fill slowly, sit for four hours, connect to line and fill water lines, then flush.....ideas?
Another question; took cap off of waste pipe,it was pressurized. Issue with drilling tiny vent in top of tube ?

To strong of a bleach solution. You need about 1/4 cup bleach to 15 gallons of water. Let it sit for 4 hours. A stronger ratio, I suspect you might cause some issues with your hose.

Thanks jag ,I was just thinking about that. I'd be only filling the hose up so 1/2 cup seemed to much.
Does residual water sound like it would make it taste like a hose ? Last fall I blew out lines (I don't use antifreeze in fresh lines). This late spring I pressure tested with hose, but only drained lines using faucets. So maybe 3 months water is funky.

Although a good idea to sanitize your fresh-water hose, the "hose taste" is more likely from the plastic in the hose breaking down and leaching into the water, rather than from old funky water left in the hose. How old is your fresh-water hose? Maybe time to get a new one?

Not a good idea to drill into the discharge pipe. Nasty water will squirt out of it when you open the valves. I've never experienced any pressure in the discharge on any camper we've owned.

Yeah I agree. Can't see why you'd have pressure in a drain pipe. Drain pipes aren't normally pressurized.

If your black tank has pressure on it, you have a problem. It should be vented to prevent pressure from building up. Check the vent on your roof and see if it’s working properly.

I have had a ‘dirt dobber’ build a nest in my vent. Flushed line from top into tank with water hose. No more problems

J, when I turned cap it SWOOSHED. I'm talking a hole as small as a toothpick tip, maybe size of needle.

Drilling, I agree. Thinking pipe is always in direct sun, in this crazy heat built up steam/pressure.

Don't drill any size hole in a drain. That is probably just going from cold to hot, or you went up in altitude to get to the campground. Either way, it proves your valves and seals are good

Make sure the water hose is for drinking water and not just a run of the mill garden hose

If you suspect it’s your white drinking hose, get rid of it. Buy a Zero G for drinking. Much easier to handle. Mine is 3 years old, no issues.

As far as drilling into plumbing, I’ve only drilled out a tiny hole in both my dump valves ,(on my present and last 2 RV’s),so I can stick a lubricant stem in to it to lube up my valves, I put a SS screw in it when I’m done, it never leaks. But only do this on an empty tank.

If your system is pressurized, something is clogged, I’d start at the roof vent like others have recommended.

White hose sanitation

I dump maybe 4oz of bleach in the hose and let it sit while setting up and then hook up to the spigot and camper. Make sure it’s empty between trips. And I throw the white drinking hose away at the end of the season and start with a new one at the beginning of a new season. They don’t cost that much…

And I agree with those that said if the black tank is pressurizing, something is clogged…

I've gotten to the point that I take a case of bottled water on every trip and drink that. I don't trust camp water, even with a filter and white sanitized hose. Use that for ice, drinks, etc. Use CG water for showers and washing dishes. A little crud there won't hurt anybody. How many of us used to drink right from a green garden hose as a kid?

We do the same for drinking brushing out teeth water. No one wants to be tied to the toilet on a camping trip.

I sanitize my drinking water hoses every spring at the same time I sanitize the water lines and fresh water holding tank. 1/4 cup bleach in 5 gallon bucket, slowly coil hose in bucket so the hose fills with bleach mixture. Let sit 4 hours and rinse, rinse rinse. If you are concerned about taste, you can do the same with vinegar instead of bleach but use 1 cup to 5 gallons.
