I leave them on the hitch usually when I'm headed over to get the trailer out of storage for a trip. I push them up close to the bumper. Mine are very stiff to move, they aren't going to swing out.

Otherwise they are stored with the rest of the hitch on the trailer at a campsite (or in my garage at home).
