Why you should check out your roof

I was on my roof today washing and inspecting it and found this small tear. When you flap it over its about the size of a pencil eraser. No idea how it happened, but glad I found it. It must be recent since the roof is not soft there and no sign of stain on the ceiling. But this shows the importance of roof and sealant inspections. A small cut of Eternanond tape will happen next.

Hmmm. Sticks dropping onto the roof?

We've camped under trees a lot and I've knocked sticks off the roof before leaving, but didn't climb all the way up. Guess I'd better check closer. Thanks.

Good catch...., or over time and it would be a totally different fix.

Could be, but there were no sticks on the roof, unless the stick blew off on our last trip a few weeks ago.

No, but it is under a tree quite often.

The tree was probably your source as mentioned above.

The reason I asked about the hail was when we purchased our old 2006 Nash, it had a dozen or so marks fairly similar to yours on the roof. I bought it knowing that it was damaged in other areas so it didn't surprise me when I found those on the roof. I always figured that it was from hail, but I had no way of knowing for sure.

I have one about the same size. I’ll fix with Eternabond. I even catch some branches on main roads, especially after a heavy rain has then weighted Down. I check after every trip.

I found a small raised "bump" in my roof just before I covered her up after last season. I assumed it was a nail lifting from underneath. When I made a small cut in the roof to pull the nail it turned out to be a very tiny pebble! Still can't figure out how a pebble came to be under my roof material but I wholly agree with frequent roof inspections...

Repaired. I keep a small roll of Eternabond tape on hand.
