Will the Yellowstone Closure affect your plans

Has the closure of Yellowstone affected your plans? We booked our reservations from West Michigan to Yellowstone last September. We got to Dubois KOA June 10 for 7 days. Got to the Tetons and Jackson for 2 days planning on Yellowstone Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. That's all cancelled. Leaving Dubois Wednesday now and new plans for the trip back home. My guess is at least the north loop of Yellowstone will be closed for some time.

Lots of other areas to visit on the way back.
We really enjoyed the Lewis and Clark caverns. Also, Deadwood, clusters last stand, Custer State Park, needles Hwy, Badlands…

Northern portion of Yellowstone National Park likely to remain closed for a substantial length of time due to severely damaged, impacted infrastructure
Visitors traveling to park in coming weeks must stay informed about current situation, road and weather conditions

Updates
• Aerial assessments conducted Monday, June 13, by Yellowstone National Park show major damage to multiple sections of road between the North Entrance (Gardiner, Montana), Mammoth Hot Springs, Lamar Valley and Cooke City, Montana, near the Northeast Entrance.
• Many sections of road in these areas are completely gone and will require substantial time and effort to reconstruct.
• The National Park Service will make every effort to repair these roads as soon as possible; however, it is probable that road sections in northern Yellowstone will not reopen this season due to the time required for repairs.
• To prevent visitors from being stranded in the park if conditions worsen, the park in coordination with Yellowstone National Park Lodges made the decision to have all visitors move out of overnight accommodations (lodging and campgrounds) and exit the park.
• All entrances to Yellowstone National Park remain temporarily CLOSED while the park waits for flood waters to recede and can conduct evaluations on roads, bridges and wastewater treatment facilities to ensure visitor and employee safety.
• There will be no inbound visitor traffic at any of the five entrances into the park, including visitors with lodging and camping reservations, until conditions improve and park infrastructure is evaluated.
• The park’s southern loop appears to be less impacted than the northern roads and teams will assess damage to determine when opening of the southern loop is feasible. This closure will extend minimally through next weekend.
• Due to the northern loop being unavailable for visitors, the park is analyzing how many visitors can safely visit the southern loop once it’s safe to reopen. This will likely mean implementation of some type of temporary reservation system to prevent gridlock and reduce impacts on park infrastructure.
• At this time, there are no known injuries nor deaths to have occurred in the park as a result of the unprecedented flooding.
• Effective immediately, Yellowstone’s backcountry is temporarily closed while crews assist campers (five known groups in the northern range) and assess damage to backcountry campsites, trails and bridges.
• The National Park Service, surrounding counties and states of Montana and Wyoming are working with the park’s gateway communities to evaluate flooding impacts and provide immediate support to residents and visitors.
• Water levels are expected to recede today in the afternoon; however, additional flood events are possible through this weekend.

Known damage and issues
• Known damage (at this time) to some park roads includes:
• North Entrance (Gardiner, Montana) to Mammoth Hot Springs: road washed out in multiple places, significant rockslide at Gardner Canyon
• Tower Junction to Northeast Entrance: segment of road washed out near Soda Butte Picnic Area, mudslides, downed trees
• Tower-Roosevelt to Canyon Junction (Dunraven Pass): mudslide on road
• Canyon Junction to Fishing Bridge: Segment of road just south of Canyon Junction potentially compromised and closed for evaluation
• The power continues to be out in multiple locations in the park.
• Water and wastewater systems at Canyon Village and Mammoth Hot Springs are being impacted by flooding conditions and are being monitored.

Stay Informed
• Visitors planning to travel to Yellowstone in the upcoming weeks should stay informed about the current situation and pay close attention to the status of road and weather conditions.
• Stay informed about up-to-date road conditions in Yellowstone:
• Visit Park Roads.
• To receive Yellowstone road alerts on your mobile phone, text “82190” to 888-777 (an automatic text reply will confirm receipt and provide instructions).
• Call (307) 344-2117 for a recorded message.
• Find news releases about the incident on the park’s website.
• Find photos on Flickr of this extremely hazardous situation in Yellowstone National Park.
• Yellowstone will continue to communicate about this hazardous situation as more information is available.

Looking for a good outdoor storage cover now.

Yes, if it's needed. Our plan is to pick up US12 just west of Minneapolis and follow it to Lewiston Id. We leave the East coast on July 17 and are due into Theodore Roosevelt NP on Aug 15. Reservations are already made for that leg of the trip. I'm going to wait until we get more updates before I decide what to do. I don't know yet what the camping situation is going to be in Montana and Idaho. I'm thinking a lot of campers are going to spread out across the area to try to salvage their trips. As it looks right now after Theodore Roosevelt NP we probably will turn south toward Southern Colorado and New Mexico. We'll see.

Been on the road from Alabama since May 23. In Rexburg,Id. Now for few days. Noticed lot of RV traffic headed South on Hwy 20 from West Yellowstone. Will be in Jackson,Wy. For a week doing things in Teton area. Did plan to speed one day in Yellowstone but then there enough times so no problem.

Latest news release regarding Yellowstone reopening...
Thursday June 16, 2022
Update from the Community Call, 6/16/2022:
· YNP is working to get the South Loop of YNP open. They are hoping for sometime next week, however they are still in the process of doing assessments to the damage of road from south of Canyon Village to Fishing Bridge.
· A system was proposed today, a brilliant, simplistic system of entry for when the Park does reopen. Instead of putting a reservation system in place the Park is looking at going to a license plate/date of entry system. Basically how it would work is if the last digit of your vehicle license plate ends in an even number, you are allowed to enter on even dates. And if the last digit of your vehicle license plate ends in an odd number, you are allowed to enter on odd dates. Further details about vanity plates, plates that end in letters, motorcycles and group travel (more than one vehicle in the party) are still being discussed. CUA travel will not be impacted by the new system - this is for individual day-use travelers. As such, guests with confirmed Park lodging reservations will be able to enter, regardless of plate/date. This new plate system looks to go into effect when the Park reopens. This system and details have not been finalized, so things may change.
Please know we are doing everything we can to provide open and supportive communication through this trial for everyone in our community. Please share out this email to anyone who may not be on the email list. Thank you all!

Destination Yellowstone and the West Yellowstone TBID are working together to get a unified, positive message out throughout our community and to our visitors. The above image with the below verbiage went out today to our general email list of 41,000 people. We also posted this same message to all of our social media channels.
"A lot has changed in our area in the last seven days – including your vacation. But if you’re here, if you’re displaced from other areas – or wondering if you should still come – West Yellowstone is open and safe, and there is still plenty to see and do.
The Park is working diligently to repair damage in order to open the southern loop as quickly and safely as possible. It is expected that loop will reopen next week.
Here’s a link to some of our favorite things to do – outside of the park.

The heart of Yellowstone is still beating."
Please feel free to share these messages out to your guests as well, any or all parts of what we send. Our hope is that this will help add the personal touch to your guests and not only show we care as a community but help to calm fears - and ultimately help to avoid cancellations. Let's join together to truly be the HEART of West Yellowstone.

What about areas outside Yellowstone. Any damage?

We are planning trip to Yellowstone in Augusta and staying at fishing bridge. Coming in from Denver area up through Rock Springs on 191 into Teton. Leaving Yellowstone we plan to head up 191 to Bozeman and head east on I 90 stopping at numerous sites along the way back towards I-29 at Sioux Falls. Are there any issues from flooding etc elsewhere on these routes? Our plans are to go!!! Already canceled this trip in 2019 and don’t want to cancel again. Thanks for any input.

Keep this bookmarked. Depends on your license plate number but the roads you will be on have are open. With delays.

Thanks. Also concerned about any areas that had flooding issues along the routes I mentioned. Haven’t seen any reports except on Yellowstone.

Entered Southern entrance to Yellowstone yesterday at 8am under even tag system. Hot tourist locations busy but we’re able to find parking stop. We like out of the way places and back roads anyway so had a great time.
