Since there is talk of the dreaded subject of winterizing on the forum, I`m resurrecting this winterizing thread. Might start the poll over as well.

Well, we've had a very good and long summer here in the PNW and we're hoping to get a few more camping trips in before winter. I DIY winterized last year and will do so again this year. I did however add a back tank flush in the spring so I will need to get some antifreeze into it. My plan is to buy an antifreeze hand pump and pump some antifreeze into the black tank via the flush. Is there any other way to winterize the black tank flush?
Cheers
Enrico

I winterize it by parking it under a palm tree...

I have not done it yet this year. This will be my first time with the new camper. On my old camper, I pumped the pink stuff in the lines the first couple years I had it. The last many years I owned it, I just used my air compressor and blew the water lines out. Poured the pink stuff in the traps. Never has any problems. Does anyone else blow the lines with air?

I'm glad to see that I'm NOT part of the 1% Obama keeps talking about. Under the radar is fine with me.

RV anti freeze was only $2.97 a gal today at Walmart. So at that rate it would take me about $4.50 to winterize.

I was wondering the same thing myself. The sewer drains are under the rv and exposed to freezing temps. so should they be treated or drained? Let me know what you hear.

"Winterized our 197 today. Managed to pump out a gallon of antifreeze before I realized I had the valves wrong at the water heater. When I kneeled down to let the water out at the low point drain, I saw that on my last trip, the valve must have got broken off on the way home! I plugged the hose with a marker pen and tightened the clamp on it.
The valves at the water heater are nearly inaccessible with out taking another panel off under the bed, which I ended up doing. This 197 pumps water a way better than the other one. I guess I didn't know any different until we bought this one!
I only overnighted in this 197 a few times and I could never seem to get a decent temperature at the shower. I am wondering if one of the valves at the water heater was wrong. I guess I won't know until I use it again next Spring.

Winterizing our TT was a first for me this year as the pop-up we had before didn't much of winterizing. Our dealer explained how to do it when we had our walkthrough and he made it all sound so easy. It was easy but it took me about 2hr cause I went slowly, reviewing my notes every so often. Next year should be faster. Blowing out the lines took a while cause I have a cheap air compressor that "cried" everytime I opened a faucet. I had to wait a few minutes between each faucet just to let the compressor build up the pressure again. I set the compresor to 40psi cause a friend recommended not going higher than 45psi and I wanted to be safe. It took just under 2-gallons of antifreeze to run through all the lines including the outside shower. I poured what was left down the traps.
