Wiring / Power LED lights

Wondering if anyone could tell me how the power is received for lights in a standard TT. Looking to wire LED's inside the kids bunk room via wiring behind the switch. It's the same mod many people do for their awning via the porch light.

Many LED strips are meant to be plugged in to 120V AC outlet and have an adapter included to switch to 12V. I don't be using a plug as I want them to work when boondocking and when we go to the occasional full service site

I would like to know how the lights get their power when plugged into shore power. When boondocking, lights still work and are powered by 12V DC battery power. Does that change when at full service? or do the lights still receive power from the 12V DC battery and the shoreline powers the AC outlets while charging the batteries?

Any lights that are 12 VDC are always 12 VDC, even when connected to shore power. This is all done at the power control panel. There are two sections in the control panel, one 12 VDC and all the circuits are protected by fuses. The other is 120 VAC and the circuits are protected by circuit breakers. When connected to shore power the battery is charged by the converter in the control panel that converts 120 VAC shore power to 12 VDC.

When you boondock you only have battery power and only the 12 VDC circuits are powered. You will probably find some 120 VAC lights along with the 12 VDC lights. Check the switch you are wanting to use to determine where the power is coming from. Hope that helps.

What year and camper do you have? Some of the newer units have J-Command and what I have been told, they tend to us wireless switches.

I would double check the switch prior to mounting the lights.

@Jagiven: thanks for the reply and tip! I hadn't even heard of that...now I'm going to learn about it because that sounds cool (like I'm not already addicted enough to reading these forums lol)
It's an older unit, a 2010 Jayco Jayfeather 29L so I'm assuming its fully wired 12V DC to all lights.
