Wisdom of Babes
Last evening the Chamber of Commerce for the small town in which I reside host/promotes a “Christmas on Main” event. Many of the local business remain open late; provide snacks, finger food, hot chocolate etc. for the shoppers. An old vacant store building is opened and “Arts & Craft” dealers set up and sale their wares. The main street is blocked off and horse and buggy rides are given up and down the street. Quite a festive event with many people, young and old, taking in the excitement. Along the street are park benches. Kitty and I were seated on one of the park benches watching the comings and goings when a young man of approximately five years of age running along the sidewalk suddenly stopped in front of me, looked me in the eye and said: “Never give a girl anything she wants.” Then as quickly as he appeared he disappeared into the night leaving me to ponder: “What event had just took place in his world to prompt that realization? And, where was he at forty-six years ago when I needed that profound wisdom!”
