WOW!! PDI Fees
Group.... read this on a Thor forum
"I'd like to hear people's experiences with the fees the dealer charges. We were set to pick up our 24.1 Vegas this weekend when we got the breakdown of the transaction. The dealer was charging $1495 for PDI and $589 processing fee. When asked they said the PDI fee was for filling the tanks, gas and propane, 160 point check and for our walk through of the RV. He didn't really explain the processing fee. Have you been hit with the same type of charges? Thanks! "

Nope. Our out-the-door price included the PDI, full tanks, a wash and a credit in the dealer's RV store for hoses, fittings, etc. There was no processing fee either.
When buyers are plunking down as much money as these things cost, gouging them with exorbitant fees is simply greedy.

I would completely walk away from that deal!! My opinion is that the PDI is for me to catch what the dealer missed! After all, it's there job to fix what's broken before I purchase the unit! I'd run away from any dealer that did that!

X2 on that. No way I would pay a fee for them to check things out.

Walked out on one like that and drove 2 hrs to a dealer that didn't tack on fees - saved over $2,000...

Wow is right, I would walk if they don't remove the fees. My dealer tried to charge me $695 for PDI and $200 processing fees. I laughed at my salesman and said you have to be kidding me, he looked puzzled and said no. I got up picked up my papers and walked out, later that afternoon he called and said we have removed all extra fees. We closed the deal the next day and my salesman and dealer have been wonderful to work with since then.

Years ago, when we bought our first Class C from Mike Thompson in Fountain Valley, Calif, they wanted to tack on a $400 PDI fee at the last minute. It was presented as a voluntary fee going to the retired guy who worked there part time doing the PDIs for them. I declined, and slipped the guy a 50 at the end. He was very helpful and clearly knew everything about the rig, despite the fact he didn't own that type RV. They had already outfitted the RV with necessities, which was part of the deal.

He is probably working with General RV. We purchased ours in Plainwell at Quality Products Inc. my Mom purchased a 27DSRL from Quality as well. The kicker is she drove from Phoenix Arizona to get it. It saved her over 17k. The dealers in AZ wouldn't negotiate.

Same. On the tag in the trailer with all the options, it *said* there was a >$1000 PDI fee, but that's just a piece of paper. I didn't base my price negotiations on the "MSRP" according to the dealer.

I agree, on our first TT I told the dealer to call it whatever you want I am only paying "X". My paperwork showed a $1500 PDI, and didn't care one bit as I still achieved ~30% off MSRP as my out the door price.

Agree with clubhouse. Our recent deal, we knew what we wanted bottom line and the dealer actually beat this on the bottom line price with a better trade in value than I expected; our trade in had a bent axle (fully disclosed) and he gave us fair market for a good condition trade. There were all sorts of plusses and minuses on the sales agreement, but as long as the final price line (including all fees and taxes) was less than I was expecting or willing to pay, then I was a happy customer.

To me this sounds like a marketing gimmick that allows the dealer to say they discount the price more than anybody else or something along those lines, meanwhile making the discount up by charging some sort of fee.
I'll be honest, on the deal I just made I didn't really even look over the contract. When I ordered the rig I had negotiated a out the door price, tax, titled and in my hands with all the options I wanted, some from the factory some from the dealer and a new fifth wheel hitch installed in my truck.
When the rig arrived I inspected it and went over the paperwork. I looked over the final number, which was the exact number I had expected it to be. They could have charged me a 5000$ PDI fee and it wouldn't have bothered me a bit as the only number I was concerned with was total amount due.

Sundancer... It's not me, I just read it on a Thor forum and I was so shocked I decided to post it here. The dealer was in Virginia

I will remember that about Clyde Ohio. We goy our Jayco used at All American Coach in Sylvania Ohio. We kept renegotiating to a better price to basically cover that fee but they would not budge on the fee. When all was said and done I saw hat we paid tax on that stupid fee. The guy who walked us thru fixed every little thing we found though, and as kinda newbies we learned so much from this guy it was worth it overall. (That fee just torched my husband)

I wouldn't pay that fee either. My dealer not only Didn't charge us Anything 'extra', but our PDI was at least 3+ hours long. The camper had full propane tanks, they filled the gray & black tanks while we were there to check for leaks. The camper was just washed that morning and cleaned inside the night before. My dealer hires an outside cleaning company to come in the night before customer pickups to clean their new rigs. Our walk-through tech stayed with us during the entire PDI and took care of anything we addressed, right away! I couldn't have asked for a better experience! We even received a discount for their in-house store to get a few things.
I'd say, find another dealer!
BTW, I drove 900 miles one-way to get my deal, and it was worth it!
Dave...

A PDI fee? Nope, not at my dealer. And I would walk away if they did.
I think there was a small charge for "dealer prep", $125 or something like that. Auto dealers do the same thing. Trouble is some will charge $500+ for dealer prep and not disclose this fee until you are signing papers. I walk away unless they drop or dramatically lower that fee.
