185RB Jayco - rust problem around air conditioner

New Owner of 185RB travel trailer.
Need advice . Air conditioner was installed on the side of the unit.

Notice screws are rusting on the outside where the face plate is located. Also drains thru slots at bottom.

Anyone have this problem and how do I correct from rusting.

I went out just now and checked my window style AC. The screws are peanut or square drive style black painted screws in the black plastic trim over the AC edge. It has been stored outside with no cover for 2 years of Illinois winters with no visible rust.

I would take out one of the screws for size and length and buy zinc plated or stainless screws and replace them.

Mine also drains through the bottom slots, from other posts this is how it was designed. I have thought of taking off the black trim and adding a drain hose that would stick out a couple of inches and drip without running down the side. If you take off the trim completely I would appreciate a picture of what it looks like behind the trim panel. A lot of people have had bad drainage, sometimes into the RV or into the wall so I believe others would be interested.
