Another New Jayco Owner!

Hello Everyone:

My wife and I just purchased a 2020 Jayco 28BHBE--we take delivery February 8th. We're both excited and nervous--I've towed trailers before but nothing this big! I'll be pulling it with a 2016 Ram 1500 tow rated for 8,400 lbs. The trailer weighs 6,665 lbs. dry so I figure with my tanks empty and our gear loaded I should not exceed the truck's towing capacity--do you agree?

I'm installing a Blue Ox SwayPro weight-distributing hitch and obviously a brake controller. I was considering a set of Air Lift bags as well, but my hitch installer doesn't think it should be necessary. Any advice on that?

I look forward to learning a lot here.

Welcome and congratulations on the new 28BHBE.
We have a 2016 28BHBE and LOVE IT!
My dry weight including full propane bottles is 6810 pounds.

You may not exceed the towing Capacity although loaded out for camping you might be close, BUT, what about the cargo carrying capacity of the truck. (Tongue weight, Hitch weight, cargo in the truck including passengers and driver, full gas tank)?

Nothing like going to the CAT scales to find out.

Enjoy the new trailer.

If towing the trailer doesn't exceed any of the truck max limitations the next question is how comfortably it tows the trailer. Will going up a steep grade or accelerating to highway speeds have the engine roaring to a level that's annoying to you? What a truck can tow and what it can tow comfortably are two different things.
