Another "Newbie" to "RVing"

Hello to the Jayco Owners Forum Members !!

My name is Terry and my husband is Dave. We live in Greenville, SC - one of the best places in the US!! We both retired last year and just took the plunge......we ordered a new Jayco GreyHawk 26Y, from RV Direct/One in Orlando, FL.

Although we are very excited (super excited) we are new to the RV world. Neither of us has ever owned an RV of any kind....yes we are virgin "newbies. We have found a lot of helpful information from this site and one day we look forward to sharing any helpful information we can with others.

We just ordered our GreyHawk today and it will be approximately 10 weeks before we pick it up. Any advice or tips you can share for us "newbies" between now and when we pick up our RV: preparation for pickup, what to expect at pick up, what we need to pay attention to when we pick up, what to expect after pick up, etc.

Any and all comments will be greatly appreciated. We look forward to many years of enjoying our new Jayco, traveling the roads, and being a part of the Jayco forum.

Sincerely,

Welcome to the forum and congrats on getting a new Jayco soon! There is a wealth of information here, so I recommend reading all you can. Before you take delivery, print out one of the Pre-delivery Inspection (PDI) checklists (click here). You can search the forum for most any subject. If you can't find something, just ask. Lots of nice folks here to offer advice. Watch as many youtube videos regarding RV'ing as you can tolerate. Most importantly, be safe and have fun!

Welcome aboard and congrats. My advice is to ask as many questions as you can and take notes when you pick up the new Jayco. Make them show you how everything works and then both of you touch and work everything. Ask questions until you understand everything. Exciting times and easy to get caught up in the experience when you pick up the Jayco. Congratulations and ask questions....

Congratulations on your new GreyHawk and welcome to the JOF.

Because of your newbie status, the PDI will be very important and stressful for you. Not only will you be learning all kinds of new stuff, you will be needing to know that that stuff is operating correctly, AND how to do it yourselves with the just the two of you around.

For me, I am a 'hands on' learner so it's best if I do it myself, and NOT (for example) have someone point at a switch and just say, "That switch opens and closes the slide." If you're like me, I suggest one of YOU use the switch to open and close the slide; and, of course, there will be many other switches etc. during the PDI.

Some folk video the whole thing. If one of you has done that before it could work, but it may not be a good time to start learning how to do that!

And then there is your first night or two alone in the new RV. Stay close to the dealer and/or home. Staying close to help would go a long way to calm your first night jitters.

Welcome! My advice is also to take as much time as you need with the PDI, and read up on the forums here about what to look for! Do not let the dealer rush you through it, and make sure you understand what everything does and how it all works before you leave the lot!
