Mine is a Denali, so 20" wheels.
The challenge with 20s is finding good load ratings for tires. The stock Good Year tires (265/60R20 E) were not adequate IMO with a load rating of 3195# each, although I've seen several similar trucks towing as heavy as my rig with these tires. I wasn't comfortable with this.
I found the Michelin Defender LTX 285/60R20 E which added 1,000# more tire loading for the back axle (AAM 11.5 10,000# rating) which did the trick for me.
The same truck in 1 Ton feature 18" wheels. 18" tires typically have even higher load ratings due to the taller sidewall. Again, the only difference between the 2500HD and 3500HD for my truck model (2018) is wheels/tires and springs. My spare is actually an 18", same as used on 1 ton trucks.

With this setup, the ride is very comfortable. The air bags do make it marginally better, but I only use about 25 PSI in them. The truck handles the load confidently with no lack of power with the L5P/Allison getting an average of 10-11mpg. No issues with braking and control down hill with the use of the exhaust brake.

I hope this helps.

Extremely helpful - If you could share with me what your "max payload" is on your door sticker so I can compare with mine. I am a little light showing only 3114 lbs

I don't have that, but per my VIN (2500HD) the GVWR is 10,000# - curb weight 6,532 = 3,468# payload.

Also, per the VIN the max fifth wheel hitch (max tongue wt.) rating is 3,375#. This is within ~100# so verified.

Most notable is that the GM website shows the same equipped truck (SRW) in 1T has a 4,100# payload.

The published weights are the way they come off the production line with no options and will be heavier depending on factory options added. I asked this question back in November when I was on the factory tour.

Not sure how your Pinnacle is optioned, but the Jayco website states 2,920 'dry pin weight'

Yours may have options that add pin weight such as front A/C, Generator, etc.. This could easily add up to that.

I pull a 2011 Eagle 351RLTS with a Ford short bed, SRW, see my sig. It's about 12,500 loaded with 2800lbs tongue wt.

My previous truck was a Ford 6.0 long bed. My current truck has a much higher weight capacity than the old one.

I have a 2019 Jayco Pinnacle MDQS with the Pinnacle loaded ready for camping with 50 gallons of water the weight on my 5th wheel hitch was 3,955. I am within 400 pounds of my 2018 Chevy 3500 max payload with 4 of us in the truck and about 200 pounds of other items in the bed. We are not big people either. I see people doing it, but no way I would pull it without dual rear wheels.

I had a GMC 2500 Sierra Duramax pulling a 15,000 trailer with a lower hitch rating than you listed. Had to go to a 3500 for the hitch. I would not try to pull your 5th wheel with a 2500. Payload is too much for it

Any feedback would be much appreciated !
Don't forget you must also add in the weight of the fifth wheel hitch and mounting brackets to that. So that will also add to your pin weight/ rear axle weight.

I pull my 2022 Jayco 310 NP RLTS with an 2022 Duramax 2500 HD High Country Diesel. Added an Air lift 5000 and Blue tooth air pump system. Keeps my rig level and no wiggles in the wind.
B&W hitch is rated at 20K
Gooseneck TWR is 18,500 lbs.
Max tongue is 2775 lbs.
At the CAT scales it all checks out good.

And this thread seems to have a life of it's own. The OP said he was moving to a permanent site a few miles from his location so it really is moot. Move it, park it and leave it. Don't worry about what it weighs or if the Duramax will tow it. It will.

These threads seem to bring out all of the people who want to give the OP weight and towing advice. Send them to the on-line sites that they can input their stats and come away with a simple "will my truck tow this answer". There are just too many weight experts that are not. Sorry but the truth hurts.

So think about this from a law suit, and a lawyer's aspect. You give someone on here advice about the best tires, towing your rig with the truck you have, you name it any advice, and the OP has an accident, kills someone in another vehicle because of a towing or tire issue and the lawyers begin looking for deep pockets which includes searches on the Internet for various threads with the OP's name and information.

Get the picture? Included in this will be the Web Site that has allowed all of this to continue. A field day from a law perspective. Far fetched? Perhaps but if I am a lawyer billing $800 and hour why do I care how much research it takes.

Not likely to happen and many sites are out there with people giving advice on a wealth of topics but I prefer to leave the best tires advice to the Discount Tire etc experts and towing advice to those that know what they are doing. Not someone who has a 1 Ton and thinks that is the only thing that anyone should be using to tow any trailer.

The posts that I have read pretty much cover your situation. If it were me, I would not look at anything less than a 1 ton, and in my case, it would have to be a dual rear wheel.

Discount Tire…. No way. Those guys know zero about tires. Just how to sell what’s on the shelves at the moment. They do good work, but tire advice. No way. Like asking your truck dealer or RV dealer how much you can tow.

These sites are notorious for these towing threads. Why is that? Because it’s the only place to get useful info. Is some of it wrong? Yes. From me and from others. But, people can walk away with pieces of different posts and reassemble them to come away with some good info.

Good for people to read this stuff, but also do their own research on manufacturers websites etc.

Please don’t take advice from the guy at Discount Tire.

I will be empty and no water in tanks.

According to the formula sheets I’ve found on the web, they both show me with a shortage of 1037 lbs which is concerning.

I was hoping to find others towing a big north point or pinnacle with the same 2500 srw duramax.
Okay I do pull a “heavy 5er” however I do it with a 3500HD SRW I believe the towing capacity has gone up a lot. Do be careful of the weight

I’m pulling a 18K ‘43 Northpoint with 07 Ford F-350 and all is well. Had 6 bolt headgasket installed, complete new cooling system, bags, shocks on trailer. Did trip down to Tampa, FL and back to WA. state. Don’t plan on another long trip like that.
