Apple TV use while camping.
On our recent trip I tried to use our Apple TV to access WIFI in a campground. It worked at home, since the unit had been set up with home IP address. In campsite, I am told by Apple, it doesn't work since it doesn't have a hard drive to access WIFI. It is probably not easy to get Campsite IP to reprogram. Any solutions??
We were able to use laptop to access Netflix but it was not as convenient.

Most campground wifi systems won't even handle the load of all the campers smart phones.

I guess that answers that! Maybe a satellite dish and stick to that entertainment will do. A lot of B.C. sites don't have cable anymore, or have poor systems. TV content available may not warrant spending the money.
Thanks to both.

What I do when camping, I have asus oplay mini player and 2 32gb usb memory sticks and i will transfer 40 to 50 shows on that before we go and we are good for the trip. the oplay mini uses 24 watts on 12 volts and tv uses 36 watts on the 12 volt so all is well.

Bev,
A couple of possible solutions for you.
If you have your laptop and your tv you can purchase a simple cable to connect the two so that your tv will show whatever you are playing on the laptop.
I am going to assume that since you have an apple TV you also have an itunes account? If so simply download 2 -3 movies to your laptop / ipad, even iphone if you have enough memory.. ~3.5 gig per movie... Apple allows you to keep your downloads for 30 days, once you start watching them you have 24 hours to finish your movie.. Also you might consider using redbox to rent DVD's for the weekend and play them on your laptop, once again connect it to your TV...

We use redbox on the road and at home. Play them on the camper on the DVD into the tv.

Thanks for the I-tunes and Redbox suggestions. I am not familiar with Redbox and will check it out. Good idea to download movies in advance as I have an Asus laptop and HDMI cable to connect to TV. At home I can load from Netflix, providing movies can be saved off Netflix , as laptop connects to house WIFI. At home the Apple TV works in the trailer as it is programmed to house WIFI. Because Apple TV worked at home I thought it would work on our recent trip.

I'm not the highest tech guy, but I've used my personal hotspot on my iPhone to get
wifi for devices like PS3 or Netflix or other apps. Warning! this does require you to use data on the phone. In my case this is not a problem.
