Bought old but it's NEW (2016)

I've had a Jayco for a the last 14 months now and my wife said we needed a toilet so it was time to upgrade. We're leaving behind and soon selling our 2010 Jayco pop-up M - 1007. I put money down on a 2016 Jayco x254. I'll be picking it up February 27th. It was left over on a dealer lot in lower Central Michigan. I got a pretty good deal on it when compared to the MSRP price of $26,154. The price I got was $16,212 before taxes, plates, etc. They also threw in a weight distribution hitch, the sewer line, tire chocks, leveling blocks, and even some toilet paper and chemicals to drop into the black tank. This X254 has a lot to offer for our family of five AND the two year Jayco warranty. I upgraded my Jeep Grand Cherokee to a 2012 Toyota Tundra Crewmax with the tow package a couple weeks ago for this very occasion. Come on spring!

Sounds like a nice deal. I would make sure the dealer goes over the roof real good and take care of any needed repairs before delivery since its been sitting on the lot for so long, and have them put it in writing just to protect yourself. This seems to be a problem area with the Jayco warranty for many owners, if I remember right Jayco only gives a six month roof leak warranty, its really up to the owner to check over all the roof sealant a few times a year.

That's really good to know. I'll take that idea with me later this month. Thank you!

I agree with Sundancer do a very thorough PDI including roof seals. Kind of surprised a 16 is still on the lot considering the 19s will be out in just a couple months. But with due diligence you will have a nice trailer and a good price. Enjoy.

I was a bit shocked to see it pop up while searching for used ones. They said they actually had two up till about two weeks ago when one of them sold. I got the other. Funny thing is, I never saw one before and haven't seen this one in person yet. I just made the purchase from the initial Internet find and contact with the rep, mostly by text. It didn't come with the $330 underbelly option but I suppose that will make it easier to service items on the underside when they break. It looks like an overgrown pop-up without the canvas. Bear proof (or bear resistant) I guess if I ever get to a federal park that bans canvas campers.

Do they only give a six month warranty or require seal inspection every six months? I think if properly inspected and maintained it still comes under the 2 year warranty.

Congrats. You may want to check the tires. Likely they will have a date stamp from 2015, so they could be 3 years old and haven't moved in a while. Tires are cheap, but the damage and inconvenience that a blowout can cause is not.

I just picked up Carlisle HD trailer tires (225/75R15 Load range E) for $67 each at Walmart.

Other than checking the tires and the roof, I think you're ready to go.

A few have mentioned the roof. I'll take a ladder, look at the seams and cutouts for the a/c and other construction made perferations(I'm not sure what else I would look at). Also, thanks for the tip on tire dates Quantum. I had personal tire experience with the pop-up last year in Michigan's U.P.

I had a tire tread rip away in the middle of nowhere. Once I got the spare on, I got south of the Mackinac Bridge into the Lower Peninsula and replaced all the tires (including the spare). The tread looked great but they were dated 2008!

I'll report back on what I find on a two year old unit sitting at a dealership.

Well, I brought our, new from the dealer, 2016 Jay Flight Ultra-Lite X254 home last Tuesday on the 27th of February. Prior to leaving the lot, I did take advantage of the suggestions here. I brought an 8-foot ladder and went around the entire perimeter of the roof, which apparently has a 12-year warranty due to the membrane that it's made of. I was told that that warranty started this year along with the Jayco 2-year warranty on everything else. Other than a little bit of dirt on the roof from sitting at the lot for two years, it was in great shape. There was no indication of any repairs on top or any water staining inside on the ceiling. The tires did not show any cracking or checkering and the fiberglass and stickers on the exterior were bright, vibrant and shiny. I did not buy into any extended warranty or exterior protection products they offered. They also offered a Tire Sentry protection that I also turned down. I figured all the money I saved on those protection programs (totaling over $4,000) would buy me a lot of new tires, maintenance products and modifications I may choose to add.

Thanks again to all who chimed in. It's tucked away at inside storage two miles away with the Interstate RV battery at my house on a trickle charge.

It got a little late before I thought to take some pictures in the driveway to show the family before hauling it to storage.

Jerry
